Insurance companies here in Florida are now declining to insure ROOFS that have solar panels installed.

The solar panels weaken the roofs, cause rotting and essentially become sails in hurricane force winds that can rip the roof right off the house.............

Interesting....the tree hugger across the street went all in with solar panels about 10 years ago, complete with new WHITE shingles.

I heard from a mutual acquaintance recently that the tree hugger received some bad news, seems he was gonna have to shell out $7k for maintenance on the solar panels.....he refused so I guess they are now there as an ornamental roof feature.

So now he has no solar assisting his electricity and is now apparently under threat of losing his homeowners insurance.....bummer 😏

I’m not doubting your information however; I have a home in SW Florida (Cape Coral) that has 12KW of solar panels. Last December brought us a hurricane that took out my roof. Down here we have a large deductible on hurricane insurance but they replace the roof and the few thousand dollars extra for taking off and replacing the panels.

I also have a home in Kentucky with 12KW of solar that just had very significant hail storm damage, so much that the roof needs to be replaced. The insurance company is doing that including removing the solar panels and replacing them. If they are raising my rates because of either of these they haven’t talked to me about it yet.

I do have a good insurance company in Kentucky, Farm Bureau. they have been most excellent to deal with on these claims. The same can be said of my Florida Insurance company, Tower.

So many people have solar down in Florida that it is much cheaper to install and to R&R solar panels than in Kentucky where they are not very popular. The cost is 3 times higher for R&R than in Florida.
