They already had a tough map, now it just got tougher.
Does this mean that the race for Senator in Wisconsin is now competitive? Tammy Baldwin was always a token for the Democrats, and when push comes to shove, she does not have much steam of her own. She has always relied on the kindness of strangers.
When the pendulum swings, it swings with a vengeance that is almost supernatural in its force.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) will not appear with President Joe Biden when he visits her hometown of Madison on Friday, among his first campaign stops since a debate performance last week that shook Democrats’ confidence in him as their presidential nominee.
Baldwin, running for a third term in the Senate battleground of Wisconsin, has not appeared alongside Biden since a January trip touting the White House’s infrastructure law. In that time, he has made three subsequent visits to the state.
Baldwin will not join Biden during his latest trip, a campaign spokesman confirmed to the Washington Examiner. Instead, she will travel to two Fourth of July parades on Friday, part of a “Fired Up for Tammy” tour that will take her about five hours north of Madison.
She’s an awful senator who stands for awful things. That said, incumbents are hard to beat. I remember years ago, there was a problem with a VA hospital in the state. A whistleblower kept calling her office and her staff ignored the calls for help. Like the chicken$hit politician she is, she ran for the staffer who messed this up and nothing ever stuck to Tammy.
Just an excuse. Post-debate numbers have moved maybe a point or two in Trump’s favor, but remain mostly unchanged. Baldwin’s problem is she won by 11 in 2018, but is polling 5 points ahead in 2024. Her saving grace is unlike for Biden, her 2018 polling was almost dead on - polled ahead by 10, won by 11. Her fear is of contagion - Biden was level with Trump or slightly behind and that hasn’t changed.
This debate gives her the excuse she needs to back away, even though Biden’s polling has barely budged. Before the debate, it would have been a breach of party unity. Hints of dementia, real or not, have given her a pretext to do what she already wanted to.
It’s a little like the period after 1/6. When Trump’s numbers plunged, Republican pols dissociated themselves. As Trump’s polling recovered, they rallied to him. If Biden’s polling remains as it is, more or less unchanged from the pre debate numbers, Democrats will stop sniping at him.
Gropin' Joe has enough resources to meet her there. He could surprise her.
