Automotive research firm J.D. Power’s highly watched initial quality study is out — and it appears EVs are giving consumers big headaches.
J.D. Power’s study tracks responses from nearly 100,000 purchasers and lessees of 2024 vehicles within the first 90 days of ownership, and for the first time in the study’s 38-year history, it incorporates repair visit data. Overall, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles averaged 180 PP100 (or 180 problems per 100 vehicles), while battery electric vehicles (BEVs) averaged a whopping 266 PP100, 86 points higher than ICE vehicles.
Automakers have typically said that EVs are generally less problematic and require fewer repairs than ICE vehicles because they have a smaller number of parts and systems. However, J.D. Power's study with newly incorporated repair data shows EVs, as well as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), require more repairs than gas-powered vehicles in all repair categories.
“Owners of cutting edge, tech-filled BEVs and PHEVs are experiencing problems that are of a severity level high enough for them to take their new vehicle into the dealership at a rate three times higher than that of gas-powered vehicle owners,” wrote Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, in the study.

Reason #17.
AT least they are making the choice easy.
ram is the most dependable??
ya, no.
You would think an ICE vehicle with it’s gas/diesel engine would have a possibility of Many more problems. Guess not.
Ever since Elon Musk came out in favor of free speech, everything related to him has become fair game.

Newer models have higher rate of problems, that could be a factor in EVs versus ICE.
J.D. found that a lot of customers brought in their cars:
J.D. Power said customers key complaints on quality centered on technology. For example, frustration around false warnings as car owners did not understand what some bells and whistles meant.
“For instance, rear seat reminder technology, designed to help vehicle owners avoid inadvertently leaving a child or pet in the rear seat when exiting the vehicle, contributes 1.7 problems per 100 across the industry,” the study stated. “Some mistakenly perceive it signals an unbuckled seat belt or cite the warning goes off when no one is present in the rear seat.”
Exactly, once Elon “left the plantation”, EVERYTHING he does is bad. Teslas suck, the factory in Cali pollutes too much, SpaceX’s Starship’s R&D issues are proof that he’s a bad manager, etc.
Shares. Must own a lot of shares.
Choice was always easy unless you are easily swayed by propaganda and not facts and figures.
EV’s have very limited use cases that make them viable.
Some people’s needs can be fully met by EV’s, but most cannot, not even close.
First time my 30 year old Honda will go to a mechanic is tomorrow to replace the timing belt. All my friends and family who have new cars are constantly visiting the dealer.
