Either you like it...or you don't.

I'm referring to SPAM!

Me, when I'm in the local Grocery Outlet, I'll pick up a couple cans of it every now and then. No, I don't eat it regularly (who does?) but being it has a 2-3 years shelf life, why not?

Every now and then, I get an urge for a SPAM sandwich and/or some SPAM and eggs for breakfast. Yes, it's a bit on the salty side but boiling it takes a lot of the salt/sodium out of it.

Thoughts?????

No email in the ‘70’s.

Spam musubi is a popular snack for kids in our local area (South Bay Los Angeles). Kind of like an oversized sushi roll with fried spam and teriyaki sauce inside.

I installed a SPAM filter over 30 years ago, long before they were all the rage.

It tastes fine, it’s just a texture thing for me - its got kind of a slimy feel to it that I can’t get past.

Yeah. When we lived in HI, Spam was huge. Spam pizza, too.

“Had it growing up,”

We had it often in the ‘50s and ‘60s. It was cheap then (or we wouldn’t have had it). Now, it seems to be pretty expensive.

I used to like sandwiches of fried Spam and mustard.

Same, for me the 60s and 70s. Fried spam with mustard sandwiches come immediately to mind.

Not for me, my taste buds just reject the stuff. If is ever had it growing up, I don’t remember it. Sometime after getting married, my wife and I decided to try it. Most people we knew who had eaten it, either loved it or hated it, no in-between. So, we tried it and tossed it. Actually tried it a couple ways, even with pineapple it tasted disgusting to us. So, more for those who love it.

It is slightly better than scrapple.

I love scrapple, and liver too. Although along with my spam, I like them well done. And the liver has to come with onions and bacon.

SPAM = Spoiled & Putrefied Animal Meat

My mother fed me this as a kid. Can’t even stand looking at a can of it at the grocery store today.

So I am on the “don’t like it” side of the fence.

I recently had a short exposition on Kosher pork from a not-very-observant Jewish friend. Kosher pork in his schema would include bacon, prosciutto, a quality pork chop, a pork tenderloin. Spam would not make the cut.

My wife makes Spam Musubi for me once in awhile, and it never lasts long because I love it.

Had it from time to time as kids. Haven’t had it in years. Mother made us fried spam and onion sandwiches. Like it as a kid. Sometimes tempted to try it and see if it’s anything like I remember.

I’ve also spent a lot of time in Hawaii. Funny how popular it is there. I think it’s flavor is similar to the Portugués sausage that’s also very popular. That it had frequently on trips out there and enjoy it.

Tried buying it locally but it’s not the same.
