I would say they aren’t worshipped- they are just given a notoriety. I’m a Trump voter, but even I would tell you that most of his voters border on worship. Hollywood experiences celebrity worship, sports figures too. I think it’s just an instinct in human nature. A good part of the almost worship isn’t the royals themselves so much as the ceremonies. We didn’t hang on to those traditions, so it seems odd to us. But seeing the bagpipes & kilts in Scotland, castles & palaces & changing of the guard in England & Wales & Northern Ireland. They have street parties, royal weddings & take part in parades, fairs & ceremonies general traditions they’ve experienced their entire lives. Because they fund it & it is done on their behalf, they see themselves as part of it.
The monarchy is limited & constitutionally has no real power. Society is still governed by elected representatives. The monarchy does prevent elected governments from gaining authoritarian power. In an odd way, it creates stability & continuity. For them, that’s the biggest benefit of it. To them, it has nothing to do with inherited wealth or subjugation. They have lived through being surrounded by countries with instability, social upheaval & totalitarianism after overthrowing their monarchies for democracy. They’ve also survived two world wars. To them, their government structure gave them stability & freedom 🤔
Princess Anne is a world class equestrian. When you Spend half your time on and around horses you can get kicked. She was just seen riding in the Trooping of the colors ceremony the other day.
The royals represent almost a thousand years of tradition.
And the Brits DO have choice - they vote for their political leaders just like we do.
In fact, awhile back the Queen voluntarily dedicated a good portion of her real property to be sequestered and pay funds into the Treasury. There is a grant that goes up and down depending on need (a funeral and a coronation are expensive) but given the tourism value, even so it may be pretty near a wash.
And that doesn't take into account all of their work in public service (and again there's tourism value there as well). You probably couldn't do their jobs for a week - it's fairly stressful. Hardly welfare grifters.
Do you have any idea of the changes in the monarchy since George III and his government relegated representation of the American colonies to one pocket borough in Kent?
You are absolutely right. I think the Queen's funeral and King's coronation put a dent in the usual balance sheet - but over all it's a profit for the nation.
I had a couple when I was a kid. Neurologist tells me it's probably why I'm a mild synesthete - my pathways are crossed and sometimes I "see" sounds.
Depends on the concussion.
I’ve had two, one minor, one major.
Major is NOT minor.
So I have two words for anyone taking the Palace’s word for anything: mobility issues.
I’m also wondering why a 73 YO who is tasked with so much at the moment has an accident that nobody witnessed.
It's happened to me . . . just a glancing blow, but a horse's head is *heavy*! A direct hit from a tossing head could easily have knocked her out - much more likely than a kick which is usually much more serious.
