Grant Busy-Prospective Bombardment of Petersburgh-Reported Arrival of Gen. Hunter at White House, &c.

From Our Own Correspondent.

HEADQUARTERS SECOND CORPS, NEAR PETERSBURGH, Va., Sunday, June 19, 1864.

Quiet has prevailed to-day along the entire line, and less skirmishing has taken place than usual. This state of affairs will, by to-morrow, have proved but one of those calms which precedes an inevitable storm, and which at this time must certainly be anticipated by all who have watched closely the progress of events of late, as affecting the Army of the Potomac. Gen. GRANT is not the man to allow the grass to grow beneath the feet of his army.

The country may look for a demonstration, shortly, which will greatly change the aspect of affairs at this point. As preliminary to other events, perhaps of greater importance, the bombardment of Petersburgh is set down for an opening step in the ensuing week's operations. Gen. BIRNEY has his artillery in excellent position at a range of from twelve to fourteen hundred yards of the heart of the city, and at daylight to-morrow the shelling will commence, provided the place is not previously surrendered by evacuation or negotiation, the former of which is only likely to occur.

The arrival of Gen. HUNTER with his force at White House, together with SHERIDAN, en route to this place, or to operate in our vicinity, has been unofficially announced this evening, and the spirits of the men, severely tried of late, are again buoyant with the assurance that Gen. GRANT is determined to increase rather than diminish his force at this point.

This evening Gen. BIRNEY, commanding HANCOCK's corps, extended his lines so far as to occupy the ground on which the wounded of yesterday's charge had since lain.
