It’s a sweltering start to the summer as a heat advisory is in effect for New York City on Friday, sending temperatures soaring into the 90s — with no relief in sight for days.
By Sunday, we’ll be close to record heat when the mercury is expected to climb to a high of 94 with real-feel temps reaching 101, according to FOX Weather.
Two Staten Island branches of the New York Public Library were closed this week after their air conditioners broke down, preventing the spaces from being used as city-designated "cooling centers," the Gothamist reported.
As temperatures soared about 90 degrees this week, two Manhattan branches also lost air conditioning as of Tuesday. However, the libraries did remain open while industrial fans circulated enough air throughout the spaces to justify keeping access available to the public.

Climbing to 109 on Monday where I live
Funny. My real-feel gauge says it feels like 94.
Have they started naming heat waves yet?
If we had the border wall we could have stopped El Niño from coming in.
West of Tucson. 108 reported a minute ago at the weather station about a mile from our house, 117 yesterday afternoon at that station. Our home thermometer registered 119 outside temp yesterday, but I suspect it’s a couple degrees off.
Humidity’s coming up, too, though nothing like the South or even the Midwest.
DOOOOOOOOOOM.

Since New York is mostly under water by now from Climate Change, can’t they just spend the day swimming and drinking while staying cool?
“But this is what would happen to Manhattan, they can measure this precisely,” Gore warned as he showed his audience much of the city underwater, including the area where the memorial would be built.
The record for the date in NYC is 99, the actual temperature not the imaginary concocted “real feel”
A couple years ago went to the races at Golden Gate Fields. Just closed, but right in the bay at Berkeley. We were having a heat wave at home. There was a 42 degree swing from when I got in the car to when I got out at home
Could it have been because you were in Dubai in the winter? Partially joking, as I'd expect Dubai's summer top temps to be at or past 120.
Yes,it was in winter...and yes,in July it gets to be 110 or higher. But the heat there is a dry heat.If you travel 20 minutes outside of Dubai you’re in the desert...and I mean the *real* desert. Just think Lawrence of Arabia.

New York has had heat waves like this before. I remember when the Daily News would fry an egg on the sidewalk and publish the picture. We used to sleep on the fire escape when it got real hot.
