It’s a sweltering start to the summer as a heat advisory is in effect for New York City on Friday, sending temperatures soaring into the 90s — with no relief in sight for days.
By Sunday, we’ll be close to record heat when the mercury is expected to climb to a high of 94 with real-feel temps reaching 101, according to FOX Weather.
Two Staten Island branches of the New York Public Library were closed this week after their air conditioners broke down, preventing the spaces from being used as city-designated "cooling centers," the Gothamist reported.
As temperatures soared about 90 degrees this week, two Manhattan branches also lost air conditioning as of Tuesday. However, the libraries did remain open while industrial fans circulated enough air throughout the spaces to justify keeping access available to the public.

First you have to protest Trump and Oil and the Weather.
Atlas Shrugged would be all the straight white male air conditioning repairmen in the city refusing to work during the hottest days of the summer.
Its 10:00 AM in Phoenix and already over that. 110 predicted today.
A heat index of 101? Pffft. We’ve had that here in central TX for the last month. Come July and August it’ll be over 110 most days. It’s called “summer”.
101... meh. My boys had two’a days in Spanish Fort, AL when the REAL FEEL was at 116. Puhleeze...
Eeek! A bit cooler than usual so far here in inland northern CA. We haven’t cracked 105 yet. Maybe we can dodge this summer the six or seven days that crack 110
I remember as a child (I’m 72), sometimes it would get so hot we couldn’t sleep at night. This was in Northern Illinois, on the first floor of an old 3 storey house, which was relatively cooler than a more modern house. I guess we were too dumb to know it was climate change, and was out to destroy us all.
Is this combined with high humidity? Do people’s homes have a/c’s?
I live in the west and temps of 90 degrees are not uncommon - but then we all have a/c’s.
I usually visit my daughter in San Francisco when the temps hit 100+ for days on end in Southern California - often September.
Nothing like hitting 65 degree fog after driving up the Golden State freeway in 110+ temps - the dogs refuse to get out of the car at the rest stops.
“Real-Feel”?
We have a great need for, “Real-feel thermometers” which will always show 4 to 6 degrees warmer than it actually is.
Hot town,summer in the city
Back of my neck gettin’ dirty and gritty
I laugh at NYC wimps. I am sitting in Texas and my feels like temp is 103 and it’s not even the peak of the day’s heat.
In Northeast urban areas if you drive down the street you will see thousands of individual room air conditioners sticking out from the windows of apartment buildings.
If you look more closely you will see a lot of rust on those units.
Many of them are old and break down during extended periods of high heat and humidity.
I’ve been in 95 degrees in Florida...and in Dubai. It didn’t feel nearly as bad in Dubai.
Big deal. Try Kansas City or Houston during the summer.
They’ll just report the “Real-Feel” temperature as the actual temperature, to convince people further that Global Warming is real.
The real temperature is in the 90’s most summer days in the South.
When I lived in GITMO, real temperatures were in 3 digits on a regular basis.
