One of the silliest controversies of late has been the recent hyperventilation at the New York Times over the flags Justice Samuel Alito has flown over his properties. Many conservatives have rightly argued that this is the latest attempt by the left to delegitimize the conservative majority on the Supreme Court, but it is also about far more -- it’s an attempt to delegitimize the entire American founding.
For the uninitiated, the New York Times has run a series of reports about which flags the good Justice and his wife have flown over their properties. Mrs. Alito raised an upside-down American flag over their suburban Maryland residence amid a dispute with a neighbor. The Times linked the Alitos’ flag to the fact that a few January 6 rioters also flew our national emblem upside-down, signaling distress.
A reporter was then dispatched to the couple’s vacation home on the Jersey Shore to confirm that they had flown the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, a Revolutionary War naval ensign. Long accepted as a symbol of the American Founding and particularly popular in my native New England, the flag has been transformed into a culture war issue almost overnight. The Times has convinced its progressive readership that the ensign is a “provocative flag” and a symbol of the far right because some of the J6ers carried it as well.
If this seems like a spurious attempt to link Justice Alito to the Capitol riot, that’s because it is. But it’s not the full story. The Left is also trying to alienate a good number of Americans from the iconography of their country’s founding.
Writing in Newsweek, Peter Roff asks “...There were people on Capitol Hill on January 6 carrying the American flag properly.

Stealing elections is patriotic now.
Just point out that this flag was flown outside a Vermont state building and the discussion is over.
Turning it into a political or religious discussion is pointless and stupid.
We should also go on the offensive and shame those who reject the symbols of of our founding. This should be what is offensive.
But the BLM and Antifa crowd can stomp all over and burn the flag and that’s okay. They are exercising their 1st Amendment rights!
“We should also go on the offensive and shame those who reject the symbols of of our founding.”
If the concept of shame existed in their world you might be on to something. It will take more than that to get their attention.
But don’t do burnouts on a “pride” flag/mural, or you’ll go to jail.
Since Biden stole his Presidency we’ve flown the American flag 24/7. However we only fly flags of the Revolution.
The Appeal to Heaven flag is our current choice.
I remember all the issues raised by the Libs when one of theirs burned an American Flag! Remember? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
The Times requires a committee of three or more to pen an article. The participation awards have dumbed down their college educated writers. The Times can’t even hire people who are capable of standing on their own two feet.

“a few January 6 rioters also flew our national emblem upside-down, signaling distress.”
It was merely symbolic of somebody’s opinion that something had gone wrong with the election. Signals are visual and/or audible information conveyed with a specific purpose in mind such as warning of dangerous atmospheric conditions, civilian traffic control, combat troop movements, landing aircraft on aircraft carriers, etc. while the misinterpretation of symbolism is often unwittingly derived to mean more (or less) than what it was supposed to. Mixed signals can be just as counterproductive and dangerous to organized missions. Bad actors abuse the conveyance and interpretation of symbolism as much as they can signaling, and I think that’s even more dangerous, especially to the civilian population(s). 9/11 was symbolized by al Qaeda as “two sticks on a cake” but it was also meant to be a signal to proceed with the mission.
Hakeem Jeffries blew this out of proportion.
Mine also.

Oh my!

I’d like to see a Tesla (or any other vehicle) burn to the ground on one of those.
You know - a melt the pavement kind of fire.
So according to the Leftists it’s OK to fly gay flags, Palestinian flags, Hamas flags and it’s OK to burn American flags but don’t dare fly an “Appeal to Heaven” flag. Satan’s Army is really expanding in the US!
We’re no longer one nation or one people with a common culture. Shame left the station in the 1960s.
