Gerald R. Ford (Republican) v. Jimmy Carter (Democrat) The 1976 presidential election was the first held in the wake of the Watergate scandal, which had consumed the Nixon presidency and resulted in Gerald R. Ford becoming president. Ford had first become Vice President by congressional confirmation in the wake of Vice President Sprio Agnew's own corruption scandal and resignation, resutling in the first American president who had not been elected to be either president or vice president. Ford, the Republican candidate, was pitted against the relatively unknown former 1-term governor of Georgia, Jimmy Cater. Carter ran as a Washington outsider, a popular position in the post-Watergate era, and won a narrow victory.

Carter was a high school graduate when Pearl Harbor was attacked at the end of 1941, Carter went to college and eventually to the Naval Academy with a planned graduation date of 1947.
Lt. Commander Ford was in WWII.
A matter of interpretation ... but the very things you mention are what I’m talking about. People rag on Ford for being clumsy ... because a comedian told them to think that. People rag on Bush (pick one) for being stupid ... because a comedian told them to think that. People rag on Palin for being a “ditz” ... because a comedian told them to think that. People ragged on Reagan for being senile ... because a comedian told them to think that.
Like I said, it takes a special kind of stupid.
Half the population is below average ...
Palin for instance, it is the image that they saw over and over that sticks in their mind, not be told it.
“””More recently, Dana Carvey’s malaprop-laden impression of George H.W. Bush, Hartman’s puppy-dog Bill Clinton, Will Ferrell’s George W. Bush and Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin have embedded themselves in the culture.”””
I’m not clear on the nature of your objection.
Words vs images? Told vs shown?
Doesn’t matter. What matters is that some people allow comedians, literal buffoons, to form their political and social worldviews. And that’s dumb. IMO.
Maybe for 2024:
WAIT & SEE WITH FJB!
I'M NUTS ABOUT JOE BIDEN
SEMISENTIENT PRESIDENT
Maybe SNL was kind of right making fun of Ford. He wasn’t really a clumsy oaf but boy he sure was a dullard.
I met (then Congressman) Ford with a small group of young Republicans.
During our DC trip we talked to a dozen Republican officeholders including a couple of cabinet members.
Every one of them was intelligent, articulate and were easily able to give solid answers to our challenging questions...
Except Gerald Ford—he was an idiot and a clown and was totally stumped by our questions. Rumors were this was caused by a football head injury—but don’t know if the rumors were correct.
Peanut farmer with an affable brother with a taste for beer. I was starting to develop a taste for beer at the time.
By contrast, Jerry Ford was the stereotypical uncool Republican. He was a bit of a fuddydud. Jimmy seemed cool. He listened to Linda Ronstadt. Did Jerry Ford listen to Linda Ronstadt? I think not! Jerry Ford might have listed to the The Carpenters. .
As a Polish-American, when Ford said that the Soviets didn’t dominate Poland, that was a big one for me.
Nah. Even if he makes it so his son takes over, at some point the Mullahs were going to kick out the Royal Family of Persia. It was inevitable.
Lbj was worse.
The country survived LBJ - that's not a sure thing yet, with FJB still in the White House...
Yes, i know all that to be true.
Did you know that Lt. Commander LBJ was awarded the Silver Star for heroism while on an Army flight?
That i did not know. I am aware of his strange sexual proclivities, however.
His medal is a little mysterious since the plane had to turn back with minor mechanical issues from the rest of the bombers, was never attacked, and no one else was awarded anything, nor knows what it was that LBJ did as a passenger that earned him a Silver Star.
You know that JFK is one of America’s greatest heroes of WWII etc, but have you ever learned what his medal for combat heroism was?
“As a Polish-American, when Ford said that the Soviets didn’t dominate Poland, that was a big one for me.”
Did you see the smirk on Carter’s face when Ford said that?
what it was that LBJ did as a passenger that earned him a Silver Star.
******
A long article with facts that indicate LBJ never was close to the
actual combat that day. His plane had to turn around because of
some problems.

The mission of 9 June 1942 was code-named “Tow Nine,” and it involved 11 Martin B-26 Marauders—fast, twin-engined bombers of the 22nd Bomb Group from Port Morseby, New Guinea. Their target was Lae Aerodrome, an important Japanese installation on New Guinea’s northern coast. Diversionary attacks by B-25 Mitchells and B-17 Flying Fortresses were to cover the 22nd’s approach.
Johnson was assigned first to a B-26 named “Wabash Cannonball,” but apparently he left the bomber to retrieve his camera. When he returned, he found his seat taken by Lieutenant Colonel Francis R. Stevens, accompanying Johnson on the tour. Stevens playfully told Johnson to find another airplane, so LBJ climbed into Lieutenant Walter H. Greer’s 40-1488, named “The Heckling Hare.”
Johnson returned to Townsville the next day, conferred with MacArthur on the 18th, and began the long trip home, carrying his Silver Star citation with him.

To me, 2020 was a repeat of 1976. 1976 was the beginning of America’s first disaster President. The 2020 Election Theft kicked off an even worse disaster, IMO.
