Anton Andreev says only 12 out of 100 soldiers remained alive after unit came under Ukrainian fire and drones in Vovchansk.
Anton Andreev, a Russian soldier from the fifth company of the 1009th regiment, painted a bleak picture of Russia’s offensive in the Ukrainian northern region of Kharkiv.
His unit had been decimated, he said, with only 12 out of 100 soldiers still alive as they came under constant Ukrainian fire and drones in Vovchansk, a prime target of Russia’s advances.
“They just chop us up. We are sent under machine guns, under drones in daylight, like meat. And commanders just shout ‘forward and forward’,” Andreev said in a video message.
Fighting has been raging near the city of Kharkiv since Russian troops crossed the border to open a new front on 9 May.

“I don’t know if I will get out of this or not, but I need to say this to honour the memory of those who died like meat here because of certain individuals,” Andreev said in the clip, which was first published by the Russian outlet Astra and verified by the Guardian.
“You walk through the street, and everything seems to be fine,” he continued. “But then you get caught up in a massacre. During the first night, half the company immediately died.”

One of the 12 survivors of the 100 at the start. He and the other 11 are likely dead now or soon will be. So they will not be able to testify any more.
Funny how the Russian milbloggers are also bemoaning the extremely high casualty rate their troops are suffering.
What? They give his name, but no picture of this guy? When I did a search for his name Anton Andreev, I come up with a Physics Professor at the University of Washington.

The problem is that the ordinary Russians are not rising up. So even if more poor Russians die for Putin’s ego, it won’t change things

The losses of innocent men and women on both sides have been staggering.
Regrettably, the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian casualties has been horrendous for the Ukraine. Estimates range from 2 to 1 on the very low end to as high as 10 to 1.
The best estimate for Ukrainian deaths in this disaster are in the half million plus souls range with many more badly wounded and permanently maimed
Realistic Russian casualties estimate at 125,000 dead on the lowest end to as high as 250,000 dead.
So ironically, those sources that are crowing about Russian losses are simultaneously and inadvertently cheering on even more staggering Ukrainian losses
All for a senseless lost cause war that should have ended years ago if Biden and NATO had allowed it to.
Looks like a million or more innocent Ukrainian and Russian pawns are going to sacrifice their lives and most of Ukraine's industrial and power generation infrastructure is going to have be destroyed before this war is finally allowed to end.
It is a bitter sacrifice but it is a sacrifice that Joe Biden, Sen Lindsey Graham and Sen Mark Warner are willing to make - and a bargain at that.
Never has killing Russians been so cheap and easy. And Ukrainian deaths come cheap and cost them nothing. As a side benefit , Ukrainian depopulation makes it easier to replace the Ukrainian population with even cheaper and far more complaint third world migrants when this debacle is finally over with .
