You have to be in very deep denial to not *know* you are pregnant.

It happens. Periods do not always stop or, there are a few women who do not have monthly periods. You may think you have just gained a little weight. You have a "quiet baby" who does not move a great deal.

I know one lady I worked with who showed up with a baby and I said, "Oh you adopted!" Yeah.... no.

She was about 5'10" and athletic and since she did not wear close fitting clothing you could not tell. In that case the baby was no surprise to her, she just did not think it was anyone else's business.

Yeah, I know. But stories like this crop up often enough that I guess it does happen. Weight gain, water retention, swollen breasts, menstruation stopping, junior kicking. And probably more things I'm forgetting.

It actually happened to my brother-in-law's daughter. She was 16 or 17 yrs. old, on the heavy side normally. Her father, and she, thought she was having appendicitis pain. He took her to the hospital and before long was told "they" both were doing well. She had no idea whatsoever that she was pregnant and "Grandpa" was in shock.

My sister-in-law told me about it years later (we hadn't been speaking for many years) and the total surprise and needing to get diapers and everything else under the sun needed for a newborn. The way she told it was very hilarious being totally unprepared for a newborn and having no idea her daughter was pregnant.

The "baby" is 18 now and will be a senior in high school this fall. No father in the picture, didn't get that part of the story but assume he was a kid himself and she had no interest in marrying him. She is married now to a great guy who adores her son.

I had all the same questions you listed, couldn't imagine how she couldn't have known but she didn't. In her case she is and was a very heavy girl as to any visible evidence but seeing the one in this story being thin, guess that didn't matter. When I first heard about it through the family grapevine I wondered if the baby was named Appendix!
