COVID Variant KP.3 Surges to Dominance—Here's What You Need to Know

A new COVID-19 variant called KP.3 has surged to dominance in the United States, according to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).1

As of June 8, KP.3 accounted for 25% of cases, per the CDC. The variant has surpassed the previous dominant variant, KP.2, which now makes up about 22% of cases. Both have knocked down JN.1, the top strain circulating this past winter.

With SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID, mutating consistently, it’s natural to be concerned each time a new variant rises to prominence.

COVID, is that still a thing?

The latest numbers for national death counts due to Covid are about 50/day. This was late March and we can expect lower numbers for summer.

That’s right, the numbers did not go to 0.

The latest Excess Deaths info easily available stopped updating Sept 2023. They, of course, showed all causes death counts were in excess of pre 2019 in old people starting Spring of 2020. This persisted worse into early 2021 and then began to fade. The Omicron surge in late 2021 killed many oldsters.

The 0-45 age group shows no excess deaths in 2020, 2021, 2022 and up to Sept 2023. The virus did not kill them.

Nor has the vax. The death counts align with 2019 and before numbers, with adjustment for known increases via Fentanyl.

This is what the numbers say. If you don’t have the numbers, you have nothing to say.

If you don’t want to trust CDC numbers, you can investigate numbers state by state. I did. Five states. They matched the CDC compilation. Do your own.

Note that SARS-CoV-1 predated the covid cases of the last few years, and has been around decades ago. These mutations are constantly happening, and the common cold is a variant. I'm not too concerned about the cold or a flu, you have more to fear from the mRNA vaccines that play havoc with your body. Current mutations are mild.
