Already sold out for the July 7th event. I’ll try to catch it when it goes wider.

Movie is fairly long but you don’t feel it. Amazing was great editing and pacing can do when watching a film.

I remember thinking it was a great movie back in the day.
What is interesting is after watching it I did not remember it being in Japanese cause it was so easy to follow.

Recently watched Yojimbo and it seems it was the template for ‘A Fist Full of Dollars’.
|Also watched the 1941 version of 47 Ronin. 3hrs and 45 min. but I enjoyed it.

I saw that in 1980 in a theater. I wasn’t sure I could sit through a long Japanese-language movie, but it held my interest throughout.
Shortly afterwards, I saw “Battle Beyond the Stars,” which transports the seven samurai from sixteenth-century Japan to a planet called Akira in a distant galaxy—and that was a hoot.

Belushi spoiled all other versions for me. After Belushi, there is nothing more to say. How can you top perfection?

I have VHS widescreen and DVD copies. I’ve probably seen it half a dozen times. Simply a wonderful film.

First Kurosawa film I saw was “Ikiru” in a Japanese culture class I was taking for business trips back in the 80s.
The professor helpfully explained much of the movie’s subtleties to us.
For example, the protagonist is given a seat at dinner far away from the boss - not a word spoken about it. The implication was he was out of favor because of his unusual request to build a children’s playground on a vacant lot, instead of going along with the business plan.

Considered by many to be the greatest film ever made.
Certainly in the running.
