This just in: The Trump campaign has reportedly sent vetting materials to a small selection candidates in the running for Trump’s VP pick, formally asking them provide personal information in order to be considered as a potential running mate.
According to reports, vetting records have been requested from these 7 candidates:
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) Dr. Ben Carson

That's my first pick too.
Carson should top the list because he served in Trump’s first term and has remained loyal to him. He would also appeal to African-Americans who are defecting to Trump, especially males. Rep. Byron Donalds would be my next choice, but he hasn’t demonstrated loyalty to Trump. I like that he helped end McCarthy’s collaboration with the Rats. Doug Burgum I don’t know enough about, and I don’t know how Trump could pick him. The U.S. Senate has proved to be a nest of vipers and the only reason to pick one of them would be to remove them from the Senate. That’s a dangerous game to play. See LBJ. An ambassdorship to some desirable country would do the same thing.
Didn’t Trump say two or three months ago that he’d already made his pick?
“...who is someone who scares Deep State at least as much as Trump does.”
That requirement would eliminate Tim Scott immediately. I hope no one expects him to continue MAGA.
Marco Rubio was all for (and voted for) the Gang of 8 Amnesty bill in 2012.
So no thank you!
And Tim Scott endorsed Lisa Murkowski.
So no thank you!
When push came to shove, these two were on the other side!
I believe that Ben Carson would be the BEST Veep Ever!
Dr. Ben Casey kidding. I’m in with Dr Ben Carson.
Frankly, I think JD Vance would be a good pick.
In 1950, Richard Nixon was elected to the senate, then two years later he was the GOP VP nominee.
In 2022, JD Vance was elected to the senate, and two years later he could be the GOP VP nominee.
Would get these commies by the throat and not let go. The only guy who could possibly clean up the DOJ.
The only guy with guts and legal knowledge to oversee a true reform of our corrupt government.
Watch him grind on the poseurs who want to be federal judges and you will like it a lot.
Vance has proven he is the best of the best......
I’m still on the Byron Donalds train. Incredible public speaker and so right on the issues! However, I suspect it will be Rubio and Donalds will be the next governor of my state, Florida. Of all of them, Rubio is in the sweet spot of age and experience and is also a very good speaker. His past positions on some of the issues is a negative, so I would still rather have Donalds.
If it is one of these, I’d bet it’s Carson.
He is a good balance of Trump in many ways.
I still don’t believe Joe will go the distance before November and that Hilary or Big Mike will be air dropped in to replace him.
So you would be willing to risk sacrificing ALL of Florida's electoral votes which constitutionally would have to be deducted? Sigh! EVERY time a VP prospect from Florida is brought up that fact about DEDUCTING Florida electors is conveniently overlooked.
Oh, and please don't bring up Dick Cheney moving from Texas to Wisconsin to make that ticket constitutionally viable because the Democrats this year will put up a ton of legal roadblocks to keep that from happening.
A HUGE NO on Rubio he is a RINO, we NEED someone to take on the MAGA banner after 4 years Rubio is NOT that person!!! Trump NEEDS to pick someone from OUTSIDE of the swamp!!! He needs to find a business person that is a PITBULL!!!
Are there any laws that say one of Trumps sons can’t be VP???
The obvious choices aren’t on the list, Youngkin of VA, Greg Abbott of TX and Mike Pompeo of KS. Of the seven on the list, Ben Carson would make the best VP. Carson is a national treasure.
Those that are on the list show that Trump in some sense is considering a diverse list.
I’ll comment on a few:
Carson - has a very good rapport with Trump, and maybe could be the difference-maker in his home state of Michigan. Carson served well in Trump’s first cabinet, and would make a good vice president or counselor to the president.
DeSantis - no charisma, came across as a policy wonk during the early primary period; but, being term-limited as Governor of FL, he is well suited for a cabinet position. attorney general?
Vance, Rubio, Scott, Stefanik, Donalds - each Senator is precious, and so are Congressman in leadership positions. We do not elect a dictator in the country, but the head of the executive branch of government within a system of checks and balances. We need to win the Senate and keep the House so Trump can easily get his nominees through the Senate and so we can get control of the budget. With large enough majorities in the Congress, we can fix immigration, S.S. and Medicare, income and health security, and everything else that has gone from bad to worse under Biden.
Burgum - like Youngkin, but ND is in the bag and Youngkin expands the playing field. Burgum, like the other governors being mentioned, would be a good candidate for a cabinet-level position. energy?
Vivek Ramaswamy - not ready for VP, even for the precocious, age is a consideration; but, would make a good candidate for a cabinet-level position. health and human services?
Trum can “move” to NJ with a few signatures.
Of that list, Vance is far and away the best. Relieved to not see Vivek or Tulsi mentioned, but din’t rule anyone out, including Haley.
Could any of these be worse than Pence?
