Alex Jones agrees to liquidate his assets to pay Sandy Hook families, in move that would end his ownership of Infowars
Cnn ^ | 6th June 2024 | Oliver Darcy

Alex Jones on Thursday moved to liquidate his personal assets, agreeing to demands from the families of Sandy Hook victims whom he owes more than $1.5 billion in damages over his lies about the 2012 school massacre.

...Prior to Thursday, Jones had resisted converting his personal bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation. But facing mounting legal pressure, he reversed course and caved to the demands of the Sandy Hook families, who have still not seen a penny from Jones since juries in Connecticut and Texas found him liable in 2022 for defamation and emotional distress. His lawyers said in a filing that there was “no reasonable prospect for a successful reorganization” and that continuing down the path would only result in additional expenses incurred by Jones.

The legal maneuver ultimately “means [Jones’] ownership in Free Speech Systems is going to get sold,” Avi Moshenberg, an attorney who represents some of the Sandy Hook families, told CNN on Thursday night, referencing the parent company of Infowars.

“Converting the case to Chapter 7 will hasten the end of these bankruptcies and facilitate the liquidation of Jones’s assets, which is the same reason we have moved to convert his company’s case to Chapter 7,” Chris Mattei, another attorney representing Sandy Hook families, told CNN.

Jones technically has not controlled the Infowars business for some time, given that Free Speech Systems has also filed for bankruptcy protection. The company’s business has, thus, been under the supervision of a court appointed restructuring officer.

...The liquidation of Jones’ assets does not mean that Infowars will cease to exist. Several outcomes are possible. The court-appointed trustee could sell the business to another owner, for instance.

A representative for Jones did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night.

Typical lying CNN. JURIES did not find him liable. Judges did without letting the case go to juries. The only thing the juries were allowed to decide was the damage awards. Both of these trials were of course held in deep blue chitholes and were the product of Leftist financial backers hiring Leftist law firms to engage in lawfare.

Alex Jones, Steven Bannon...now Epoch Times being targeted by the DOJ. PragerU’s app being pulled down by Google.
Notice the pattern yet?

They’re trying to silence all of the Independent Media that supports Trump right before the election.

That’s what I was saying a week ago in another thread about Alex Jones.

He should have been working with the Trustee to get his bankruptcy cases closed ASAP, that way he can get back up and running quickly.

People seem to think Bankruptcy is the end, it’s not, it can be used to settle debts so a person can start over again without all the debt.

So you tell me how many others were suing other than the entire ‘outraged’ population of the earth and who therefore deserve compensation.
Also this was not an individual family case, so, wrong-o on that even if it weren’t deficient thinking.

Even with Alex Jones it is really not worth that much income-wise (studio building, equipment {assets} are worth something in addition)....~$358K in income per year for “Prison Planet”/”Free Speech Systems”/”Infowars”:

Would take awhile to pay off $1.5 billion at that rate. Best to finalize the Chapter 11 (now a Chapter 7) bankruptcy/liquidation and start over fresh.

If every person on the face of the earth sued for for harm done to them, as I understand the how lawsuits work, they can sue for the same amount of money each. The number that sue you does not reduce what you’ll need to pay.

I just cannot sue you, individually, for an unreasonable amount of money. But 50 million of us can each sue you for a reasonable amount of money for harm done. It just adds up to a lot.

Many of Alex Jones' statements were reprehensible and his reasoning often idiotic but the statements were not actionable under traditional defamation law principles due to a lack of clear monetary loss for the parents. In effect, no one of consequence in their community believed or credited Jones' claims.

Moreover, the massive size of the judgment was based on punitive damages and violates statutory and constitutional principles against excessive punitive damages. Finally, the entire case against Jones was funded by Leftist billionaires determined to shut Jones up.

More broadly, at its outermost perimeter, freedom of speech must include protection for people who say outrageous and even untrue things. If not, then freedom of speech becomes a privilege available only to those who have the money and legal and political clout to litigate against their opponents.

Indeed, go against powerful adversaries, and you may find yourself driven into poverty like Mark Steyn in a battle against a climate change advocate before a politically hostile judge and jury in Washington D.C.

That’s my point.
A $1.5 billion judgement in this case is completely asinine given the finite number of plaintiffs WHICH ARE ALREADY KNOWN (I suspect 23 families, not sure).

Does the judge just get to say “Well, what the hell, my vermin scumbags will kickback, so it’s this much”. WTF?

If it was a single plaintiff, I would agree with you. But when you are being sued by multiple parties, they each get their reasonable cut. Even if the totality of the reasonable cuts are insane.

Agree. Taking it a step further. Chinese or Soros or Bilderberger money. Or all three? The evident systematic nature of the dismantling of the U.S. and the Constitution by its enemies is positively mortifying. And there is more than one enemy and they appear to be acting in concert with one another. Coordinated. Just staggering.

If you harmed 1,000 individuals, where they can demonstrate that you harmed them each for $500,000, should they not be able to get their justice by each getting $500,000 or are they not allowed to have their full justice because the collective judgement would be $500 million dollars?

If you were a plaintiff, would you accept a much smaller judgement than you are due, because the totality of all whom is suing is a huge amount? If I gave you a coffee coupon, instead of $500,000, you’d be happy with that?

No. I haven’t lied. You’re presuming intent, which is slanderous.

Explaning what is understand does not make me a liar. Casting the accusation about, just so you seem all powerful, does not make it true either.

Whether you like it or not, Alex Jones created material harm through his public program that was able to satisfy a judge. The fact that he has relented to pay suggests that he has explored all his legal options, including the issue of whethr the judgement was reasonable or not.
