Soft and sugary, it has spurred the spirits of World War One soldiers on the front lines.

Warm and doughy, it has earned the adulation of Homer Simpson, the main character of America's longest-running animated TV series.

Heart-shaped and jelly-filled, it has even been used to honour the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding.

Tomorrow is national donut day. Probably the only food that deserves a holiday.

Will get a glazed, chocolate iced, or plain donut with a cup of coffee, to celebrate.

And I don't eat donuts or drink coffee

They were invented By the Chinese who serve them as a savory fried bread with congee (Rice Porrage) The Dutch took the fried bread and bent it into a circle then honey over the top with nuts in the middle. The English lost the nuts but kept the name.

Donut day is a nonevent for me. Don’t eat wheat or sugar or the grease they are fried in. Some o them look fairl appetizing and I understand why people want them.

Donuts today are TOXIC.

Don’t be fooled.

They are NOT what they used to be.

Fair warning.

I make my DOUGHNUTS at home and NEVER imbibe a commercial ‘donut’.
