US seizes Scott Ritter’s passport

The US State Department has seized the passport of former Marine and UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, he told RT on Monday.

Ritter was on his way to Russia for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) when he was pulled off the plane and had his documents confiscated.

“I was boarding the flight. Three [police] officers pulled me aside. They took my passport. When asked why, they said ‘orders of the State Department’. They had no further information for me,” Ritter told RT. “They pulled my bags off the plane, then escorted me out of the airport. They kept my passport.”

“Was this done in accordance with the First Amendment, or the Fourth,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, commenting on the news. The first amendment to the US constitution protects freedom of speech, press and assembly, while the fourth bars the government from “unreasonable searches and seizures.”

What would “defecting” even mean for a private citizen without any government position or access to state secrets? Wouldn’t this just be a highly negatively emotionally charged way of saying “moving to another country”?

Yep. When Trump was ‘convicted’ of those 34 fake felonies, that was the red line crossed for me. We are now officially a tyranny as far as I’m concerned.

If this country is insane enough to elect Biden a 2nd term or he successfully steals the election which is what I expect, life in the USA is going to become very difficult. These domestic enemies - which they are - will do nothing else but focus on making our life hell on earth resulting in tens of millions of really pissed off people.

“Was Ritter thinking of defecting to Russia?”

If he was, does that allow the US Government to stop him from leaving? I’m getting rather confused here - the America that I grew up in NEVER had a problem with an American LEAVING the US for any reason, providing they weren’t fleeing from the Justice System, which does not appear to be the case here.

Is the US more like the Soviet Union than I ever knew of?

On the other hand, in the modern Russian Federation, the absolute right to cross the state border (coming and going) is explicitly guaranteed by the constitution (a citizen explicitly needs to waive the right to hold certain government positions, like those in which holding state secrets is required). Russia also absolutely refuses to extradite their citizens to ANY other country. Food for thought.

Biden thinks that we are at war and he has war powers.
After all Russia got Trump elected, invaded Ukraine for no rhyme or reason, and sells oil when we say they can’t. BTW we froze their overseas assets. So sticking it to an American Citizen who disagrees with Cho Bae Dung is allowed. The hippies were right, make love not war Man. And now for something completely different did anyone see Cho’s Mr Sardonicus grin as he didn’t take questions leaving the podium the other day. Very Creepy even for Cho.

Appears it was not a direct flight to Russia, but a flight via Dubai. He should have just flown to Dubai and ordered the flight to Saint Petersburg when in Dubai.

He must have ordered in the US the entire flight, meaning the US intelligence were also illegally spying on an American citizen.

He wrongly assumed the Biden regime would not go as far as to pull a citizen off a flight and revoke their passport,

Thanks, it seems that the UNTHINKABLE IDEA that we would actually be in the process of TRADING PLACES with the Soviet Union (now Russia) is becoming more and more apparent, almost by the day. For example, when was the last Russian “Show Trial”? I have no idea but our last Show Trial ended last week with Trump being ‘convicted’ by a rigged ‘judge’ and a rigged ‘jury’.

...The first amendment to the US constitution protects freedom of speech, press and assembly...

Figures the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman would leave out the part about petitioning the government for a redress of grievances.

There are large parts of Antarctica you can go to without a passport.

Haig v Agee

There's nothing in the Supreme's Court decision that states foreign travel is a "privilege" for US citizens. Only that the Executive branch has the authority to revoke an individual passport if there is a likelihood of "serious damage" to national security or foreign policy.

"The Court noted Congress's historical recognition of 'Executive authority to withhold passports on the basis of substantial reasons of national security and foreign policy.' The Court further held that because the regulations were limited to cases in which there was a likelihood of 'serious damage' to foreign policy"
