The WNBA on Sunday upgraded Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter's foul against Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark to a flagrant-1 violation after reviewing the play.
Carter gave a shoulder shot to Clark that knocked her to the floor before an inbound pass during the third quarter of Saturday's 71-70 win by the Fever. The officials called it an away-from-the-ball foul and didn't review the play. It was deemed a common foul at the time.
The league fined Sky forward Angel Reese $1,000 for failing to make herself available to media after Saturday’s game. The WNBA also fined Chicago $5,000 for failing to ensure that all players comply with league media policies.
The league office may reclassify a flagrant foul or upgrade a foul to a flagrant one that isn’t called during the game. In addition, the league may impose a fine or suspend a player for a flagrant foul. The WNBA didn’t do either to Carter.

Carter doesn’t get it. Clark can make all the players richer by expanding the TV audience. If Carter continues this behavior, there will be more severe punishment.
You’re a bitch
Womens Negro Basketball Association.
No white women is allowed to be successful.
I admire CC immensely, and she will do for the WNBA what Tiger did for the PGA, though likely on a smaller scale - bring in more fans, more TV, more money, and more lucrative sponsorships.
But in this instance, while she was indeed fouled, she flopped like a g@y soccer player.
Class vs Trash
That’s an actual assault and the WNBA shouldn’t be investigating it, the police should be.
Why wasn’t the black woman fined and charged with a hate crime?
But in this instance, while she was indeed fouled, she flopped like a g@y soccer player.
It’s a player’s job to make a foul against them look as flagrant as possible. It’s called acting.
she flopped like a g@y soccer player.
Watch the clip, she was watching the ball and the action ... was blind sided.
Ha! They must’ve received a ton of push back.
Agree.
Any blame, to Caitlin, on this ... reeks of lefty tactics.
Just another black thug. Nothing to see move along
Agree.....she didn’t flop. She was assaulted.
As the WNBA continues in it’s competition with the NBA, it has grown in its determinations of what will put butts in the seats. The years of failing in the women’s leagues was consistent with the inability to dunk and supply the contact that the NBA has been doing without calls since the 1950’s. And as long as it fills the arenas, it will continue. Remember, the owners make the rules and they are always looking at the bottom line. So the slow transition to larger players and more contact in the WNBA has been foremost in their finnacial success. Carter’s foul is common place in the NBA and Clark is going to have to get used to the cheap shots.
WNBA Rules 12 section 8 applies.
If that had happened in an NBA game, depending on who it was, it most likely would have been called a loose ball foul and at most an intentional foul (possibly flagrant) which after the 2017 season is considered an intentional which is a shot and the ball depending on when it happened. Flagrant constitutes an ejection. This was thei leagues way of trying to control the intentional foul to keep it a foul and not a flagrant one that could cause injury and try to entice away from the advantageous false double foul. Don’t go there if you can stay away from it. It’s normally covered by shot arrow now. And if Carter had just reached for the ball while making the contact, it would have been just a common foul and she would have gotten away with not getting a fine because the ball was being inbounded at the time of the foul so it could be identified with trying to get a better guarding position.

an “away from the ball” foul? bull. she was the closest player to the ball on the court.
and did CC’s teammates defend her?
“All the players richer...”
Uhh...none or next to none of the players are (is?) ever going to get rich with this on-the-court product.
Have you ever watched one of these games?
Miss after miss after miss after miss....
Kind of like when there are videos of white kids being beaten by blacks at school, they say "learn to box."
