The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

Note: This was taken from Mad Magazine, but the origin was an English detective novel, The Fashion in Shrouds, by Margery Allingham published in 1938. Acccording to Froggy the lexicon is as follows:

CRACKERS: foolish, crazy or stupid
ROZZER: Policeman, authority figure
DROPSY: Bribe, payoff
SNIDE: Counterfeit currency

Thus the quote in full means: “It is foolish to attempt to bribe a policeman with counterfeit money”
