Don't ask me why I was reading this the day before. I hadn't read it since 1990. I've always wondered if preppers also prepare for arrest.
"...people arrested who were guilty of nothing and were therefore uprepared to put up any resistance whatsoever."
" Universal innocence also gave rise to the universal failure to act. Maybe they won't take you? Maybe it will all blow over? A. I. Ladyzhensky was the chief teacher in a school in remote Kologriv. In 1937 a peasant approached him in an open market and passed him a message from a third person: "Aleksandr Ivanich, get out Of town, you are on the list!" But he stayed: After all, the whole school rests on my shoulders, and their own children are pupils here. How can they arrest me? (Several days later he was arrested.) Not everyone was so fortunate as to understand at the age of fourteen, as did Vanya Levitsky: 'Every honest man is sure to go to prison. Right now my papa is serving time, and when I grow up they'll put me in too." (They put him in when he was twenty-three years old.) The majority sit quietly and dare to hope. Since you aren't guilty, then how can they arrest you? It's a mistake! They are already dragging you along by the collar, and you still keep on exclaiming to yourself: "It's a mistake! They'll set things straight and let me out!" Others are being arrested en masse, and that's a bothersome fact, but in those other cases there is always some dark area: ' 'Maybe he was guilty. But as for you, you are obviously innocent! You still believe that the Organs are humanly logical institutions: they will set things straight and let you out."
"Resistance! Why didn't you resist?"
First they came for.......................
Yep.
There’s another snippet from the Author..
Oh How We...
I think a lot of innocent people acquiesce to being arrested because they naively think justice will quickly prevail and absolve them.
We have a lot of waking up to do.

I was re-reading exactly this last night too. Solzhenitsyn is the indispensable guide for our current situation.
I agree that’s a big part of it, but I also think there is an assumption that ANY resistance will be looked at as an admission of guilt.....most people have a huge difficulty with getting over this.

Thank you
Almost anything can occupy the thoughts of a person who has just been arrested! This alone would fill volumes. There can be feelngs which we never suspected...A person who is not inwardly prepared for the use of violence against him is always weaker than the person committing the violence.
I hesitated.
Those that don’t get it by now, won’t. That’s just the way it is.
If the rat 🐀 bastards can do this to Trump, there ain’t a dang one of us who is safe.
"Kill all they send..."
But the early dawn raid is still in vogue.
It helps to shut off the electricity.
Their DNA seems to be similar and they study each others manuals.
They are evil scum bags, and I don’t mean to offend everyday, run of the mill, other evil scum bags.

I believe that Solzhenitsyn should be mandatory reading in every high school curriculum.
Great post from a truly GREAT Anti-Communist Anti-Totalitarian. What he suffered and what millions suffered and died from— that is what is the TRUTH.
