For a good book about life with a rock and roll band. I recommend “running with the devil” - Van Halen as seen by their manager

Has he revealed anything about his failed attempt at singing?

“You know that song What A Fool Believes by the Doobie Brothers? It scares the hell out of me.” - Brian Wilson, as quoted in the documentary Long Promised Road.

Aside from being unrecovered heroin addictt, both Becker and Fagan who ran their studio for commercial use, routinely paid studio side people (singers, overdub instruments they themselves did not play, horns etc) with cocaine. Thus hooking people into being cocaine dealers themselves to convert this to cash to pay their bills, because grocery stores and other legal businesses do not accept cocaine as payment. Quite known in the industry and, not alone. Heroin the “elite” drug (not). It’s not called dope for nothing.

This article seems to want to somehow discredit Steely Dan but why, to detract from their success?

In my opinion, Mcdonald ruined the Doobie Brothers.

McDonald originally reunited with the Doobies in 2019 and plotted a 50th anniversary tour with the group. The pandemic put those plans on hold, but the trek eventually launched in 2021. It marked McDonald's first tour with the Doobie Brothers in 25 years.Saw them in 2021, and last year, and this year upcoming. Always a fun show.

He’s probably the only rock and roller to use cocaine.
