In a cold dusty part of central China, a local Muslim leader stands alone in the courtyard of a small mosque.
It feels eerily quiet.
We both know we shouldn't stay too long. If the police realise foreign journalists are here, it will bring trouble for him - and for us. He is careful about what he says. Everyone here is. But there is a subtle reality at play that he wants to communicate.
"The religion was living and now, it's like it's dying," he says.
What he's describing is, in part, the impact of an express policy in Xi Jinping's China - one that aims to "Sinicize" religion, to reduce its influence and make it more "Chinese".
When you talk about Chinese Muslims, most people initially think about the Uyghur minority who predominantly live in far western Xinjiang province.
That group, from Turkic origins, have been in the headlines due to their mass arrest and incarceration in a series of camps that China contends are actually "vocational education and training" centres.
But they are not China's only Muslim minority.....

Hope they kill each other.
Interesting: they’re showing pictures of mosques and removal of domes etc. over the last few years
I didn’t realise such details
This is a definitely a policy of Xi’s then
The chinese know who the real enemy is and they’re dealing with it appropriately.
We are not capable of that, china knows it and is exploiting that weakness. China has weakness too but our government is too corrupt to do anything about it.
Unfortunately the Chinese do the same thing to Christians in their country.
I'm glad someone is - damn raghead bastards will be the death of us all.
Yes they have the powers I suppose while the West doesn’t and to a certain extent doing the complete opposite.
Unfortunately the Chinese do the same thing to Christians in their country.

And to any other minority - this is the Rule of The Han Chinese. All others make way.
Once this policy is “deemed” successful in China, China’s CCP will expand it to the rest of the world, via its now-in-development genetic virus to eradicate anyone not Han Chinese.
Islam and Communism are both cancers.
“Is Xi doing a good job then Freepers ?”
He’s eliminating any and all possible threats to the communist grip on China which includes many religions and other peoples.
We are in progress and next for elimination.
So is he doing a good job? Probably, but to no one’s benefit but for the Chinese Communists.
China is no match for Islam. China is a physical location. Islam is ubiquitous. Anti-religion, anti-freedom collective. Anti-truth, anti-freedom, anti-individual, anti-life collective. Both EVIL collectives.
TRUE
To the chicoms anyone who opposes the party is an enemy.
Just like tge demokratz
The difference is that Christian in China make it point to say they are no threat to the central government, though they do try and make it live up to its constitution. The Muslims want their own Islamic Sh*thole country.
yes the Chinese treat Christians badly however keep in mind that the Chinese government understands that it isn’t the Christians that are the real and present danger simply because the Christian belief system isn’t based on violence against non-believers whereas the muslim belief system is. “the only difference between a muslim and a radicalized muslim is how devoutly they are willing to follow their own religious beliefs” applies. any muslim that says they would never support violence in the name of islam is either lying to you or lying to themself.
Xi is leaving the Hui alone to practice their Mahometan faith freely.
Never mind Red China’s continued alliance with Iran.
What kind of “job” is being done here, then?
What do you mean “live up to its constitution”?
Red China does exactly that. They use every built-in loophole. Kind of a different situation when “rights” are granted by the state instead of being recognized as coming from God, something that a perverse atheistic society would never do.
We must combat religion. That is the ABC of all materialism, and consequently of Marxism.Since Maoism is based on Marxism-Leninism, there is no way that the party would abandon this derived stance, particularly against Christianity.
— Lenin
In the clash of the two most brutal and ruthless ideologies now extant, the most brutal and ruthless of the two will prevail.
