Washington Capitals’ and Wizards’ Capital One Arena rated one of most dangerous NBA venues

Capital One Arena was ranked as one of the top 10 most dangerous NBA arenas, according to a new study.

Located in Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown, the Capital One Arena hosts Washington Wizards and Capitals games. It was ranked as the eighth most dangerous arena based on factors including fan behavior and the crime rates for the surrounding area, per a recent report by BetTennessee.com.

In 2023, violent crime in Chinatown rose by 36%. The city overall experienced its deadliest year since the late 1990s and earned a top-five spot among cities with the highest homicide rates.

Last year, the owner of the Wizards and Capitals, Ted Leonsis, was proposing to move the teams out of Washington, but his plan fell through.

Last month, the District of Columbia Council approved a $515 million deal to revamp the arena and surroundings. Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser had also struck an agreement with Leonsis, which addressed his public safety concerns. To ease the owner’s worries, the district would create a public safety plan before events and dedicate 17 officers for patrol two hours before and after events.

So...that person outside the arena asking “what’s in your wallet?” wasn’t from Capital One?

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fan demographics in the area, nothing at all.

More than likely, not.

It’s tough when the arena is in a bad neighborhood.

Has attendance slipped? I’m sure some people won’t want to go there if it’s a rough area.

I still refer to the “wizards” as their one and only true name, the Washington bullets. Cause it fits oh so perfect.

In recent years, some won’t even go into DC at all because of the crime.

I go there for Capitals games frequently. I get a parking spot right near the arena and have not had a problem. Police directing traffic.

Not too long ago, Chinatown was a destination, now it’s a crime riddled “Cannabis” filled disgrace. Homeless in every vestibule with a thin blue line of “report takers” masquerading as law enforcement who look like they couldn’t pass a donut truck.

Dear Washington Examiner:

Psssst….

…it’s the PEOPLE in the neighborhood, not the neighborhood itself…

Shhh… not supposed to say that part out loud…

I live close to DC and am included in that group.

It’s yards away from the FBI HQ. A president who cared would put the FBI on street crime duty in the surrounding area. DC is a federal enclave so I am pretty sure there would be a legal basis for that.

Yeah, smoking crack cocaine with the mayor. Those were the good old days. Back then when you bought a politician, he stayed bought. Not like now.

Contact the Washington Capital Chain Link Fence Company. They know how to build riot walls.
