"Satya Nadella says Windows PCs will have a photographic memory feature called Recall that will remember and understand everything you do on your computer by taking constant screenshots"

TRANSCRIPT BEGINS~~~~~~~~~~

Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft): How do we introduce memory, right?

Photographic memory into what you do on the PC

And now we have it. So it's called Recall.

It's not keyword search.

It's semantic search over all your history.

And it's not just about any document, we can recreate moments from the past essentially.

WSJ’s Joanna Stern (interviewer, provides demonstration): Here's how it works.

Windows constantly takes screen shots of what's on your screen, then uses a generative AI model right on the device along with the NPU to process all that data and make it searchable, even photos.

I got to try it out. I searched "brown leather bag."

It came up in visual search. There's no place on this page that it says "brown leather bag". It just knows because it sees (ransomnote: the image of) this brown leather bag.

WSJ’s Joanna Stern (interviewer, now speaking to Satya Nadella ): There could be this reaction from some people that this is pretty creepy. Microsoft is taking screenshots of everything I do.

Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft): Yeah. I mean that's why that you can only do it on the edge. So you have to put two things together. This is my computer; this is my Recall. And it's all being done locally.

Just my opinion, the CEO of Microsoft appears to be smiling, seemingly bragging about this display of power, because he knows this Recall 'feature' is not wanted and will cause people to recoil as they realize there will be no more anonymous posting on the Internet, no more anonymity for anyone.

Dual boot linux.

Work usually forces you to use Windows.

Only do work stuff in Windows.

Everything else in Linux.

While it sounds like this invasive, Big Brother Recall feature is expected in the future; I think they are bragging about it now in a desperate attempt to chill online objections to the election theft and their next plandemic etc. They haven't been able to use this feature to stop Trump or Trump supporters. We need to get President Trump in office so he can stop this 'new' threat to free speech.

I recall Biden threatened about 3 years ago that the office he created would be focused 'like a laser' on 'misinformation' to discourage us from supporting Trump, and yet we still have enough freedom of speech to expose the Deep State's election interference and support him into first place in the up coming election.

Now there is a stupid idea.
Fill your computer storage with screenshots you can’t delete.
Can we bring back the “Blue Screen of Death”
At least we know how to fix it.

Good to hear as there are many times that I want to dig up something from the past.

“Fill your computer storage with screenshots you can’t delete.”

aren’t you assuming that these screen shots are actually being stored locally, vs. being sent to MS cloud storage?

= = =

As I age, I have more and more stuff in the past.

If I try to keep track of it all, I don’t have time or motivation for new creations and directions.

Sometimes, I just have to say, It is GONE. Move forward.

And it's all being done locally.

Maybe he can tell me how to turn off using OneDrive as the default storage location for files. Every time I turn around it is back as the default storage location and I have to manually select my computer to save files.

Locally is a curse word to Microsoft.

I am running Windows 10 Pro. OneDrive is nowhere to be found on my PC. I wish I could recall how I removed or disabled it.

I've been running on a local profile since Day 1. I do not have my PC tied to a Microsoft account, no matter how hard Microsoft tries to trick me into one. Anyone willing to use cloud-based accounts and/or file storage is just asking for trouble, IMHO.

This thread features one minute of an 8 minute video.
Here’s the link to that video for those who may want to investigate (and share with us?) the hardware and software requirements for Recall.

I wish Linux was an option for me. I use some high end CAD, CAM, FEA and CFD software that are only available on windows. It is starting already but eventually it will be all online in the cloud, and I could potentially use linux, but that adds the expense of endless subscriptions to the cloud.

Gee, good thing storage is getting so cheap.

I wonder how much a yottabyte of storage at the NSA Data Storage Center costs compared to at Microsoft and Google etc.

My thought, exactly. I use a Win 10 on my recording studio rig but that machine's never connected to the internet. I use another machine to browse etc. I'd have no problem using Linux to do that. If this intrusive crap is implemented, I'm making the permanent switch.

I've test driven Linux several times and it's decent and reliable - and it comes in many flavors.
