There were about 11,846 U.S helicopters that served in the Vietnam War. The U.S records show 5,607 helicopter losses.
That is not very many. Surprisingly few but who knows what to believe. Hey, what happened to RevMom, did here propaganda funding end?
During the Soviet–Afghan War.
US also lost 3500 fixed wing aircraft in Vietnam.
That was a different era, when the US had the production capability to make up for those losses.
Its over Russia lost...sarc
Just about to post this myself.
You're right on the money. 5,000+ helicopters lost in Vietnam. I was there for 13 months. Getting shot at scared me, but nothing terrified me more than riding in a helicopter.
What is a quarter or half scale invasion.
Why this perpetual adjective?
If this were 1994, that may have been a substantial portion of the Soviet chopper fleet capable of flight.
I know of a case in 1993 where a Soviet army Colonel sold some major Top Secret gear to a U.S. Army captain, in uniform, for enough to feed his regiment on the train trip home.
But this is 2024, and the Soviets(in Putins dreams), er, the Russians have a lot more operable machines today.
For any they have lost, they have produced at least the same.
Airpower of Russia and Ukraine in comparison 2024
As of 2024, the total number of aircraft of Russia outnumbered that of the Air Forces of Ukraine by more than 13 times. The number of Russian fighter aircraft amounted to 809, whereas Ukraine had 72 fighter aircraft."
In fact, if there's any truth to the report you posted at the top of the thread, Russia lost more helos than the Ukraine owns.

Humously, in the article you linked for this thread post, the Ukrainians falsely claim Russia lost more military helicopters than Russia possesses.
The article you linlked says: "The Oryx blog is perhaps the leading open-source intelligence blog compiling visually confirmed losses in the Ukrainian war since the first days of the war" but I have heard an analysis kind of letting the air out of Oryx's blog info claims -it's not a 'gold standard'.
Tokyo Mpm....lol...hmmmm
Yes, where have all of the pro-Uke FReepers gone to?
Not so much pro-uke as anti-Russia. The more the Uke’s kill or maim there, the less the rest of the world has to worry about it.
Maybe the site referral link checks stopped coming.
I remember when I was in the AF as an NCO hearing about an Army program that would have resulted in being a Warrant Officer if one transferred to the Army. Problem is that it required learning how to fly a helicopter.....
