Has anyone here had LASIK eye surgery, and have you been happy with the results? I'd especially like to hear from those who have had it on one eye.
I have one eye that is very good, and one with astigmatism that seems to get worse as I age. I'm thinking of having Lasik on the bad eye.
Thanks very much to anyone who has the time to reply.
I had mine done after the 2nd Cataract surgery. They are good for 10 years. Then you will need to go back to glasses. Be sure that you get a high-quality Ophthalmologist. It didn’t fix the Astigmatism though. AND LUBERTICATING EYE DROPS BECOME A NECESSITY. It creates DRY EYES. Their meds ones have Side Effects. Get the non-oily and preservative-free type, I use Blink, the new one. Get the bottle one, the singlets are not great for pocket carry.
You may also experience "dry eyes." But all in all, it was worth it. Makes hunting/fishing/outdoor sports much easier. No need to constantly wipe glasses. Good luck!
Oh, and my shot groups improved !
Both my sister and I had it done over 20 years ago. Her eyes were very bad beforehand (legally blind) & she did to get glasses after 12 years or so. Mine have been great, I do have glasses for driving at night (for glare) and need reading glasses, but that’s just typical age-related. One of the best things I’ve done, for sure! I actually cried the first morning when I woke up and could read the news crawl from across the room.
I used to be able to see up close, now I need readers, but I’m 20/15 and can see way, way out there! Before, maybe 15’ out there. It makes shooting through optics a pain, but I love it otherwise!!!
I considered and rejected the idea decades ago. I decided to remain as God made me, but not for religious reasons. Nearsightedness is a blessing: without my glasses I can easily see remarkable detail which others cannot. I suppose I would have been a good forger or watchmaker, but it has otherwise exposed me to the details of creation’s natural wonder.
I almost had the procedure, but due to shingles always present on my left temple near my eyes, even had it on the tip of my nose hours before the laser cutting commenced.
I’m very light sensitive too and heard that the worst effect can be diminished night vision, sometimes light sources will have a starburst pattern. Actually worst would be blindness, only 1 eye at a time just in case...
Although it is extremely rare a few people have been left with so much pain after the surgery that they ultimately committed suicide. It works well for the vast majority of patients, but it is not without risks.
Well it was a very positive thread - until we showed up! lol
True words
Most excellent advice
That’s my problem - left eye is fine, right eye is the bad one. The vast difference between them is what I think has made adjusting to eyeglasses difficult for me. And from recent posts, the LASIK may not help because I have astigmatism (?)
Thanks again to everyone who responded.
When I first I got eyeglasses, I could see individual branches and twigs on tall trees for the first time. It kind of scared me...
Hope it all works out for you.
Regards
My wife had it done when she got rid of cataracts. Her results are so-so. She is 71 and has dry eyes. Without expensive drops, she can’t read.
