The beloved British series "Doctor Who" did not live up to ratings expectations after its star told viewers not to watch if they had a problem with the progressive messaging of the show. Its cast, former lead, and director have been promoting progressive ideologies recently, while the show's viewership has been cut nearly in half.
Lead actor and Doctor Who character Ncuti Gatwa already had the second-worst premiere for a season of "Doctor Who" in December 2023's Christmas special titled, "The Church on Ruby Road." According to the BBC, the episode had 4.7 million viewers.
As That Park Place noted, however, this only beat out the original "Doctor Who" premiere, "An Unearthly Child," that aired all the way back in 1963 to the tune of 4.4 million viewers. That same season saw a significant increase in viewership as it progressed, peaking at over 10 million viewers by episode 10.
The same upward trajectory cannot be said for Gatwa's iteration, who famously told critics not to watch if they didn't like the woke direction the series was taking.
"Don't watch. Turn off the TV. Go and touch grass, please, for God's sake," he told Variety. "As the world darkens — and I do think the world is darkening around queer rights — there is a joy and a celebration, and there’s a community," he continued.

I didn’t like Capaldi, watched one episode and flushed the series. Jodie was kinda quirky, but the stories just weren’t as good as they was.
Any bets on whether the Doctor will be revealed as being gay or bisexual at some point during Ncuti Gatwa’s stint as the Doctor?
Ask and ye shall receive, “Shooty” (how “Ncuti” is supposedly pronounced).
That already happened, FWIH.
So here's the answer to a trivia question: Who was the first gay producer to ruin Doctor Who? John Nathan Turner!
But Russell Davies has him beat by a mile, Davies has turned Doctor Who into gay fanfiction. Brutal.
"Bi-regeneration" is ridiculous.
But to be fair I watched the Christmas special a few months ago. Then earlier this week someone hooked me up with "Space Babies", the first of the two new episodes.
I hung in for twenty minutes and decided I hated what this show has become.
I did not see "The Devil's Chord" which is by most accounts even WORSE and has a screaming gay drag queen playing the bad guy, who demands to be known by "their" pronouns.
How can anyone defend this mess?
Gatwa has literally said he would defeat a monster by dancing to it. Let's see how well tweaking works with a Dalek.
I loved the Tom Baker episodes. I couldn’t wait for the next one. When I found a new Dr. Who on cable I tuned in. Suddenly, without any warning or idea as to why, the male star started deep throating another male character. I was stunned. If it had somehow related to the story or the plot, I probably would have continued watching. But it was gratuitous and had no relationship to the story. In fiction, you never mention something that isn’t related to character building, the plot or the story. If you mention the gun on the mantlepiece you’d darned well better use it later in the story. You might say the kissing was character development. Well, it wasn’t a character I wanted to know any more about. “Click.” I’ve never been back.
Russell Davies makes John Nathan-Turner loom like The Sopranos’ David Chase.
My dear Gatwa - Gatwa?! - the only place where queer rights are darkening is in the islamic world, but you would never have the guts to say that would you? Everywhere else, it's gay-gay-gay all the time.
And hey, if the star tells viewers not to watch, then don't watch.
Loom=look
I doubt it.
I thought they did a decent job bringing back the series with Eccleston but the show got awful with Capaldi (who is a great actor and would have been the perfect Doctor with better writing ). They tried gimmick casting since than with lady Doctor and gay black Doctor
The problem is the writing and it’s probably time to put the show on hiatus for another couple of decades
I liked it drudgery was the 10th Doctor and Rose. Unwatchable. Moffat is doing the 3rd Episode.
Davies was very political in the 1st time as shoe runner. The Moffat area with Amy and Clara is FAR better than the Davies era.

We're in a lot of trouble, because you people and 62 million other Americans are listening to me right now. Because less than 3% of you people read books. Because less than 15% of you read newspapers.Because the only truth you know is what you get over this tube.
Right now there is a whole, an entire generation that never knew anything that didn't come out of this tube.
This tube is the gospel, the ultimate revelation. This tube can make or break presidents, Pope's, Prime Minister's. This tube is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world and woe is us if it ever falls into the hands of the wrong people and when the twelfth largest company in the world controls the most awesome goddamn propaganda force in the whole godless world who knows what sh_t will be peddled for truth on this network?
So you listen to me. Listen to me!.
Television is not the truth. Television is a goddamn amusement park. Television is a circus, a carnival, a traveling troupe of acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, jugglers, sideshow freaks, lion tamers, and football players.
We're in the boredom killing business!.
So if you want the truth, go to God. Go to your gurus. Go to yourselves!. Because that's the only place you're ever going to find any real truth.
But man you're never gonna get any truth from us. We'll tell you anything you want to hear. We lie like hell. We'll tell you that Kojak always gets the killer and that nobody ever gets cancer in Archie Bunker's house and no matter how much trouble the hero is in don't worry just look at your watch at the end of the hour he's going to win. We’ll tell you any sh_t you want to hear.
We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true. But you people sit there day after day night after night, all ages, colors, creed's. We're all you know.
You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here. You're beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal.
You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube. You eat like the tube. You raise your children like the tube. You even think like the tube. This is mass madness, you maniacs. In God's name you people are the real thing. WE are the illusion.
So turn off your television sets! Turn them off now! Turn them off right now turn them off and leave them off. Turn them off right in the middle of a sentence I'm speaking to you now! Turn them off! -
I wouldn’t have minded John Cleese after Tom Baker left. I would have continued watching. After him, John Lithgow, and any other of the starring casts of Buckeroo Bonzai or 3rd Rock from the Sun. They could fake the accent. Just my taste, but I think mine is a lot better than whoever has been in charge, since.
He wears a costume that emphasizes his rear and is quite a common swisher bar look. The new sidekick gal hints she is also gay.
I watched both new episodes, hoping the writing would make up for the gay crap.
But Babies in Space was about just that - god awful.
The second one, the Devil’s Cord, was just as stupid with really eye-hurting ?actress? who looks more like a heavy set guy in drag playing the bad guy, as child of the Toy Maker.
The theme picks up on the Toy Maker, with more of his ‘children’ to come in future episodes.
Show writer has just run out of ideas, even though the cannon is filled with take off points for new shows.
Only hope is that someone takes the show back and writes the story to say the past 2-3 doctors were in an alternate universe and it was destroyed.
The gay doctor emphasizes that he was not born on Gallifrey, but was born somewhere else and adopted. Further, he is the last of the Time Lords as his home was genocided (sic). He does not mention the Daleks as the cause during the Time War.
None of that makes any sense, as the Master who was presumably born on Gallifrey is still around somewhere. If the Doctor was not a Gallifrean, then how did he get 2 hearts and also become a Time Lord?
Just a DEI mess.
I decided on no more Dr. Who when it went from being on BBC America to Disney; then with this new guy and the re-writing of the entire Dr. Who canon, I’ve said good bye for ever, except for pre Jodie Whitaker shows. I watched her in a couple of episodes and was put off by her whiney voice and attitude.
The Master destroyed Galifrey when he found out that the Doctor was from another Universe, and was the template for all the Time Lord’s. Chirnballs Doctor Who was boring.
