Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill banning lab-grown meat in his state Wednesday, in what he described as an effort to “save our beef.”
“Today, Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals,” DeSantis said in a press release Wednesday. “Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef.”
The bill, S.B. 1084, makes it “unlawful” for people to “manufacture for sale, sell, hold or offer for sale, or distribute” lab-grown meat in Florida.
“Florida is taking a tremendous step in the right direction by signing first-in-the-nation legislation banning lab-grown meat,” Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson (R) said in the press release.
“We must protect our incredible farmers and the integrity of American agriculture. Lab-grown meat is a disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity, and is in direct opposition to authentic agriculture,” Simpson continued.
Good Meat, which describes itself on its website as “the first company in the world to sell cultivated meat,” said it was “disappointed” that DeSantis “signed into law the criminalization of cultivated meat in” the Sunshine State.
“In a state that purportedly prides itself on being a land of freedom and individual liberty, its government is now telling consumers what meat they can or cannot purchase,” Good Meat said in a post on the social platform X.
“The law is a setback for everyone: Floridians who deserve the right to eat whatever safe and approved meat they want; Florida’s technology sector, innovators and entrepreneurs; and all those working to stop the worst impacts of climate change,” the post continues.
I've seen articles about how European nations are cracking down on stuff that's in food that is harmful to the human body, the same chemicals are in our food supply chain here in the US. People who have vacationed overseas all say the same thing in that when they eat the foods from the local eateries that they come away feeling better, fuller, and all the while they lose weight.
Lately I've been searching for foods that are actual foods, not something that is just a bunch of chemicals thrown together made to resemble food, or something that hasn't been genetically altered, or drowning in pesticides. I've seen articles about some stores that have stopped selling things like Reece's products because of a certain ingredient in it (I can't remember what it is), or Cheetos because of Yellow #5 and #6 that cause damage to the human body.
All that to say, kudos to Gov DeSantis for signing that bill. Now if the rest of the food suppliers can start manufacturing and selling actual food, our health would be a whole lot better.
Now, can someone help me find a food retailer that sells actual food? Thanks!
This was a dumb bill, let the market decide
.
Sounds political.
There is a phone app called Yuka that scans the product bar code and lists dangerous ingredients and additives present. It assigns a score based on the results.
when the "market" is dominated by massive concentrations of capital? no thanks. there's a place for sound government in society.
I’ve read that they use cancer cells to speed up replication of whatever it is that constitutes these fake meats. We have no idea how healthy this kind of product is. I’d just as soon remove them from the market until the proper testing is done.
Decaf coffee that is decaffeinated using methyl chloride is the next target for banning.
This guy De Santis is incredible and hitting on all cylinders. He should think about running for POTUS.
No, it’s a excellent bill. I don’t want to wonder everytime I take a bite meat in a restaurant whether I am eating some lab grown cow tumor.
You think the people behind the Great Reset are in favor of markets deciding anything? Have you not been paying attention to how the leftists are banning product after product after product? They are effectively banning gasoline automobiles and coal fired power plants with emission regulation so stringent that they cannot be me. Is that a free market at work?
DeSantis was there? Meat was there?
I didn't notice...
The folks in the background look mad/sick.
How odd.
I’ve heard that same thing.
Good, even better would be that no non-meat product can use a meat name or any name that might cause confusion between real and fake product.
Doesn’t make sense. If it doesn’t happen in Florida, it will happen someplace else. But Florida is cattle country...iirc..
“lab-grown” ain’t meat.
Notice how they keep calling it that.
I think the industry is moving to supercritical carbon dioxide. It’s safer and much less expensive.
It’s a hydrophobic solvent similar in properties to hexanes.
We use it for electron microscopy.
The Governor should mandate disclosure. Not choice.
I didn't notice...
Haha
Thanks for posting it.
If it had been posted, I missed it.
Good for DeSantis.
