It was less windy in 2023 in Illinois, the article tells us, and that was because of big Canadian forest fires last year. And it blames climate change, of course, for forest fires.
Another part of the problem is impediments created by the “equity” requirements now built into Illinois energy law for hiring and worker training.
Regardless, it’s not climate change or a year of low wind that’s “sucking the air out of Illinois’ wind power industry,” as the Sun-Times headline postulated. The state’s expectations for renewables were doomed from the start.

OH! But a TEN BILLION DOLLAR public stadium built on the lakefront will fix everything. Maybe including the billion they still owe on Soldier Field?
Or the new casino that will make Chicago solvent? Execpt the developer is nearly bankrupt and cutting back...
The marijuana sales! That's the ticket. For some reason that has yet to produce.
They sold all the parking meter income and the Skyway for some magic beans...

And Flounder’s brother’s car will be remembered forever...
Illinois has to borrow money to fund their pensions.
That debt is junk bond debt. The state’s credit ratings are on par with the crowd that shops at Aaron’s.
If they don’t get a real governor soon, it sounds like they are doomed. The lucky ones will be the ones who are no longer living there to see it happen.
“It was less windy in 2023 in Illinois, the article tells us”
Maybe they put up too many windmills and the wind slowed down.
Consider the amount of “ carbon pollution “ those Canadian forest fires dumped into the atmosphere. No one also seems to blame Trudeau government for failing to manage the forests to reduce the fire hazard or their mostly failed efforts to promptly control and extinguish the fires.
