trump's not so secret weapon (melania)?
me | 2024-4-24 | me

Posted on 04/20/2024 4:08:59 PM PDT by SteveH

i have a recurring surmise that melania could potentially be a much bigger political asset to DJT in the 2024 presidential election than she currently appears to be (log cabin republicans? how many of those are there btw??).

before dismissing it altogether, give it a chance. melania checks two or three big boxes that her husband does not-- consider: women, immigrants, catholics.

melania also provide an eastern european perspective which might even be deployed against the ukranian war funding.

trump's achilles heel if he has one (and discounting ever present massive vote fraud, which is beyond this scope) is the women's vote. discounting vote fraud, we are where we are today due to liberal women voters.

in history, wilson had his wife. fdr had his wife. most presidents since fdr had their wives.

not casting shade, but melania seemed to fade into the background somewhat during the last two elections. i concede she was visible, and even could be considered somewhat active. however, was she ever deployed for maximum political effect? this would in theory include trump taking a step away from the public eye for a moment and pushing melania to the center stage.

maybe it has already been done and i just missed it (possible). maybe it can be dismissed out of hand as impractical. or, maybe it can be dismissed due to lack of support by melania-- in which case, maybe melania's devotion to her family duties eclipsed whatever political duty she might have felt in the past.

it's also a potentially dangerous step since if the liberals are willing to jail trump (or worse), they could also be willing to jail melania.

so unfortunate as it sounds, it might not be a purely political decision.

otoh, melania is (at least, i imagine) a naturalized american citizen. as such, she presumably now owes some allegiance to the USA. I'm not proposing that I or anyone else should presume to make such a heavy decision on her behalf-- it should always be her decision alone without any external pressure one way or another-- but the stakes are somewhat high right now, and if she wanted to be more active politically, I for one would not take issue with it.

I wish that she was sitting behind her husband during this show trial.

No, she’s not helpful. She is, for different reasons, not well liked or respected in the US. Having her there with Trump at a trial involving payments to a whore only embarrass her, which is very wrong. If there is any trial she should NOT be at, it is this one. And I think she has enough self-respect to stay away, which she has so far.

“ She is, for different reasons, not well liked or respected in the US”

Definitely not by the propaganda media which slants the vast majority of people’s opinions about almost everything.

She loves homos and RINOs. She refuses to support her husband in any of his trials. Not much help.

Melania has made it clear that she does not like politics, campaigns, the scrutiny of being Mrs. Trump and she would be fine if she was NOT the First Lady again.

She wants to be left alone.

My opinion is that her impact on the campaign, one way or the other, is minimal. She’s never sought attention - being more comfortable staying in the background. She was a good First Lady who mostly tried to stay out of partisan politics - leaving that to her husband.

I don’t think too many people are going to change their mind on Trump, one way or the other, because of Melania.

Hey admin moderator: this is a political issue, not a chat issue. Reason: There is no ‘politics’ category in Chat. So please consider putting it back in news/activism, not chat. (Yes, I’ve contributed significantly for years.)

Yes. This dog and pony show is centered on her husband paying hush money to a whore... Her presence and support would be helpful.

I agree. She knows she is not charismatic.

She was a model. And a trophy wife.

The media harpies trash even her for being born in a foreign country, having an accent, etc, forgetting that she came here LEGALLY-on a work visa as a model and got a green card. There is no reason to show disrespect to her-at least she worked, and she had a perfectly good education already when she got here. She is probably afraid she will lose her temper and tell someone off if they say something ugly to her...

That “trophy wife” was already making her own money here-and had been making her own income in Europe before then. She is obviously a quiet, private and reserved person-I doubt that she cares who thinks she is/is not charismatic-she isn’t a pop tart or other entertainer. Laura Bush was quiet, reserved-not charismatic either. First ladies are not as important as the media wants them to be...

I was not thinking specifically about the hush payments trial when I wrote the base post. Subtract the hush payments trial (political as it probably is), and that still leaves all the other political aspects in which she could be helpful.

OK, you seem to have made up your mind about Trump already, I see. (I could just as easily make up my mind about your gender and politics, and maybe come to a more accurate conclusion than yours.) You think any of these trials have any basis in law? Sounds like a very east coast mode of thinking to me. Manhattan? or maybe just Arlington?

I have no problems with the way Laura and Melania have approached their roles as the First Lady. In fact, all First Ladies should aspire to be like them. Low key and modest is the way to go.

My only objection is that apparently Laura is a closet liberal.

Nobody gives a F about Melania. Most women hate her, especially lefty ugly women. Other women hate her because she’s a gold digger that hooked up with Trump for one reason. Oh…but she speaks five languages!!! Nobody cares. Probably not even Donald.

I have always wondered if this was true for Melania. It seemed like (for example) Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan got plenty of coverage including allegedly women’s magazines— but not Melania (at least according to my highly unscientific sampling at grocery store checkout counters). I would like to be wrong...

Can’t imagine her anxiety. Her husband threatened in so many ways. God bless them both.

Well... if true, I suppose, it seems like such a lost opportunity to make a difference. Again, I think the bottom line is ultimately personal. I can only hope that she gains a historical perspective...

You have it exactly backwards as usual, because you believe the allegations.

Theirs is no shame in supporting your husband who is facing false accusations regarding a whore.

Low key, reserved-and also those two didn’t dress in what looks like drapes or the upholstery of a sofa-the lack of taste that Michelle Obama and Jill Biden show is hilarious...
