I’ve heard that some people drink from a cup up to half a cup of olive oil every day.

I really wonder if ANYONE at NASA or Space X has actually done the math to find out just how much, food, water, air and other consumables it will take to keep a modest crew of say 3-5 people alive for a trip to Mars and back.

Don't be silly. They're not coming back. They will colonize Mars and grow their crops there. Reproduce and have families. Build cities. it'll be some years before they can build the subway, ya' understand but all good things come to he who waits.

That has always been the main problem.

Water can be recycled, and is, but food is a different matter, along with the long term health effects of space travel...............

Raw meat is the most ancient food.

Just mix your Tang and ice cream with EVOO instead of water, and dunk the Space Food Sticks in EVOO as well. Just like the ancient Greek astronauts!

I thought it was going to be honey - super food and never spoils. Apparently they found some in the pyramids, still edible. Probably less likely to give you the runs than high quantities of olive oil.

Might be nice to be like Israel and figure how to make the deserts blossom?

At first when the guy was telling me all this stuff I thought he might have been full of crap. Then he gave me his business card.
I looked him up and became friends with him on Linkden. I still am today. Except he is now retired from NASA.

He had been a pilot during Vietnam. He said one of the things he was most proud of was his simulator landings of the Space Shuttle. IF he had gotten the chance to go into space he would have been the pilot of the shuttle. He also would have been the first African American to go into space. But they chose the other guy.

Dad went on a business trip once and ended up at one of the space center museums at the peak of The Space Race. (Late ‘60s.) He brought all that stuff home for us girls to try.

I do remember Mom buying Tang once it was commercially available. She fed us a lot of ‘fake food’ back in the day. She loved her Oleo-Margarine that she had to buy in Illinois. ;)

The LUXURY of a frozen TV Dinner, eaten on tray tables while watching Carol Burnett or Wild Kingdom! We knew Dad had hit ‘The Big Time’ in his career when THAT happened. ;) (Mechanical Engineer)

One of my kids is an astronautical engineer. He works for a private company at a nasa facility. He also had a job at nasa in college.

He and some space geek buddies toured space museums. His nasa credentials allowed him to go anywhere he wanted at Cape Canaveral. He was geeking out big time.

Water can be recycled, and is, but food is a different matter,

There has already been a documentary on this.

You hit the nail on the head. Floating alone in space, would you rather poke a straw into and drink a foil packet of Tang or olive oil? Really????

We love olive oil!

I’m curious to know the origins of each olive oil, wether or not they were Italian, Greek, Spanish, or would it make any difference at all.
