“The amazing thing is not that it is so screwed up, the amazing thing is it works at all.”
When I worked in large utility and industrial power plants, that was on my mind every day. All these millions of parts and hundreds of people and these machines work 24x7 for months on end delivering reliable power to homes, businesses and industry. It’s amazing.
You can say the same for your family car as well. Highly reliable complex systems are amazing. Most people don’t have a clue.

Just looked it up — there IS a Fairchild airshow this year in June again.
A-10 Demonstration team, must be one of their last appearances before disbanding.

You must have been either a pilot or boom operator. Which one?

My daughter was flying home from Australia the night that door blew off. She landed in San Francisco, changed flights to Spokane. I was up half the night waiting to see whether that was the flight that lacked a door.

Ok, cool. I am honored to make your acquaintance. You are among a group of the bravest people I ever had the honor to work for and with. I never flew, but I did all the paperwork to ensure they all could. God bless you kind sir.

Ahh. You would have used the J-4 and N-1 systems.
The sound of dread - a hollow sounding J-4 flux valve when tapping on it. Greattt - a multi-hour compass swing!
