"Experts say that Brood XIX, which operates on a 13-year cycle, and Brood XIII, which arises every 17 years, are set to appear simultaneously—a coincidence that was last recorded occurring in 1803 and is not expected to occur again until 2076."

When my son was young we had a large Cicada emergence. They are quite loud. He asked what they were, and I explained they are insects. He then asked why were they laughing at him.

I remember brood XIX In 1973. I took my little brother fishing at Weldon Spring and gave him a rod with a hook and put on a Cicada. I turned around to get my rod and there was an explosion. The biggest bass I have ever seen took it and broke his line instantly. My brother was a devoted fisherman ever since.

Why are they suddenly trying to create a hysteria about a bug that we have dealt with for decades. I remember them as a child in the 1950s. Nothing to panic about as they do not sting or bite.

This is going to be an interesting year in American, with the explosive cicada broods, a solar eclipse, probably a volatile tornado/severe storm season, and finishing off with a contentious election.
