Lou Conter, the last living survivor of the USS Arizona battleship that exploded and sank during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, has died. He was 102.
Conter passed away on Monday at his home in Grass Valley, California, following congestive heart failure, his daughter, Louann Daley said, adding she was beside him along with two of her brothers, James and Jeff.
The Arizona lost 1,177 sailors and Marines in the 1941 attack that launched the United States into World War II. The battleship’s dead account for nearly half of those killed in the attack.

Rest In Peace, Lou
Rest in peace, sir...
Fair winds and following seas, RIP Lou
Can you imagine surviving a tactical nuke attack, say, in 2024—and then living until 2100?
At a time when we had heroes. RIP, sir.
. . .
Back with his shipmates at last. Smooth seas, Quartermaster.
My late Dad’s PBY-5 co-pilot in the Rabaul area north of Australia/PNG.
He had 5 wrecks/shootdowns/friendly-fire, but chewed-up the Tokyo Express that was supplying enemy-held islands.
All damaged circumstances can be found on the Internet.

The Greatest Generation!
Many here understand the significance of this.
Others in this country...not so much. Sigh...
One of the very last of a breed of man that few people under the age of 55-60 can even comprehend or appreciate. Rest in peace, Sir.
Two generations ahead of me as I am 62, I as a child sincerely looked up to grown ups of this age and I actually (listened) learned and saw what an American was. I perceived it as humble but never cross a set line. Thank God for men like him.
The greatest generation.
With his mates now.
RIP
Rest in Peace Sir as you report for duty to The Supreme Commander.
