You would think it would be obvious what it was; then I realize, being a former Marine I tend to know what ordinance looks like.

Florida had many military training bases in WW II. The result is that there is still lots of unexploded ordnance lying about the state. Near Orlando, a former bombing range was thought to have been fully cleared and was sold for civilian development — only to have bombs turn up again and again in backyards and even on the grounds of an elementary school.

Practice low-drag bomb. Still has a charge to generate smoke on impact. It can hurt you.

I wonder how long this guy lived in his house? I’ve lived in mine for about four years and have a pretty good size suburban lot. I guarantee you, if there were a piece of military ordnance sticking out of the ground, I would have found it long ago.
