Just got back from there and I agree with everything he says.
Truly a little gem of a city/state!
“They shared that while it’s nice to live here for a few years, long-term stay and retirement is “a bad choice” because there is “no soul and spirit”.”
Well they can come to Oakland or Baltimore - lots of soul, spirit and vibrancy.

Spent my entire professional life overseas and loved every day of it. Would do it again if given the opportunity.
What a BS. You must never have been overseas.
What a BS> You must never been overseas
The skiing is better in Bavaria than anywhere in the US and so is the beer and education for my kids.
I was stationed in Singapore for 5 years and went all over SE Asia. I know it very, very well.
I know it even better — I was born on Java and did not get out of the Japanese concentration camp until they mercifully dropped THE bomb. God bless Oppenheimer, Paul Tibbets and the Enola Gay.
Then you know everything I said about Singapore was correct.
So you grew up in indo? Speak dutch, bahasa indo?
This guy trades his freedom for security. A good little sheep. |
I'm sure the man and his family had other choices besides Singapore and New York City, but if given those two cities as the only option...
Singapore. Better security and better freedom.
Maybe the guy just does not like black on white crime.
No free speech, no witnessing/religion converting, no right to assemble, no gun rights, no property rights, etc etc.

Correct! So why would anyone want to live in New York City with conditions like these?
Both.
Both. I only remember that the mighty Brits were there and had their guns pointed in the wrong direction thereby not able to protect Burma (British India), Vietnam (French Indo china) and that the entire ABCD front (American,British,Chinese,Dutch) fell apart. Two battleships were sunk near Singapore by a handful of Japanese zeros. I was only a pre-teen when it all happened. We got our news by wireless from the BBC.
I knew two brothers who were fortunate to survive Tjideng, tough times.
