AI Is Rigged: If you’re looking for unbiased, reliable information, look elsewhere.
American Thinker ^ | 03/21/2024 | Jeffrey Folks

A.I. is rigged. When looking up any question susceptible of a liberal bias, A.I. appears to provide a biased answer.

Today I asked my A.I. “copilot,” “How long does it take to re-fuel a gas-powered car?”

Even without being asked, my copilot insisted on comparing fueling time for gas-powered cars to charging times for E.V.s, concluding that “in summary, while gas refueling is faster in the worst-case scenario, considering overall monthly time spent, E.V.s are more efficient in terms of charging time.”

I didn’t even ask about charging time for E.V.s, but A.I. insisted on comparing E.V.s with gas-powered cars so it could conclude that E.V.s are better. If that’s not rigged, what is?

Since A.I. brought it up, I decided to follow up by asking whether gas-powered cars are more affordable than E.V.s. I’m certain that they are, but once again, A.I. came up with the woke answer, concluding, after a long, circuitous argument, that “in summary, while gas-powered cars may have a lower initial cost, electric cars offer long-term savings, environmental benefits, and a smoother driving experience.”

A.I. arrived at both answers in a convoluted and, I believe, dishonest manner. Regarding fueling time, A.I. assumes a weekly refueling for gas-powered cars but mileage of only 1,000 miles per month for E.V.s. An average gas-powered car today makes some 500 miles per16-gallon tank, requiring about two refills per month — not one refill per week.

Also, A.I. assumes that it takes 10 minutes to refuel a gas-powered car. The average refueling time is half that. (This information is buried in dozens of pages devoted to recharging times for E.V.s — clearly, someone doesn’t want us to know how little time it takes to refuel a gas-powered car.)

In sum, the fueling time for gas-powered vehicles is one fourth what A.I. assumes, while the charging time for E.V.s is much, much greater, given that A.I. glosses over the problem of finding a public charging station and the nightmare of charging multiple times on a longer trip. Then, even for a “fast charging” station, average charging time is 30 minutes.

A.I. states that recharging E.V.s takes “less of your time” than refueling gas-powered cars. That may be true if you rely exclusively on a home charging station, but not if you charge your E.V. once a month or more at a public charging facility. For an average driver refueling twice a month, gas-powered cars require 120 minutes of refueling time annually. Just once a month for an E.V. away from home requires 360 minutes annually if you’re lucky, something A.I. doesn’t tell you. If you’re unlucky, you will be stranded without a charge.

Very simply, it is garbage in, garbage out. The DEI, ESG, anti-American bias and bigotry that it is programmed with colors its answers. It is a mirror with the disfunctional kids and young adults who suffer the same indoctrination. Like our youth, it risks and shows signs of being crazy. Put another way, it doesn’t compute.

AI does what its programmed to do. It does not learn. It simply uses more data. Nowadays any piece of code is called AI to sell it. But AI is nothing more than code being programmed on faster and bigger computers with more and more data and connectivity. But in the end it does what it was programmed to do. And its limited by the quality and breadth of its data.

Asking AI is like asking a teenage girl with thousands of semester hours of education but no degrees, and is a clever pathological liar with liberal parents.

The writer says he wasn’t even asking about EV refueling times. But really he was. The AI obviously knew what he was getting at.

I have a computer science degree.
I know how to design AI software.
I rather tire of all these un-trained people pontificating
on AI. Y’all don’t even understand set theory much less how it works in a computer.
I’m also an electronics engineer.
EV technology and the infrastructure just isn’t mature enough yet.
Y’all are making emotional political decisions
that are BS!

I agree.

Why are all of these AI critics referring to “A.I.”, as if it’s some giant server facility being run out of a university or the White House?

There are countless different models. I just asked the AI I use (Claude.ai) and it gave me a completely different answer.

Does the author actually think “A.I” is just one giant central hive mind, and not millions of different models doing different things and written by different people?

Stop it while we can, or we may never have the chance again.

Stop it while we can? What the hell is he talking about? Ban AI?

The author is an uneducated fool.

I warned about this on FR 20 years ago. Where were the CONservative millionaires and billionaires who could have mitigated this?

“I just asked the AI I use (Claude.ai) and it gave me a completely different answer.”

I recall an article years ago where the author had thought the internet was going to be so great because all of this new information was available to everyone and would open up new avenues of discovery.

Until he used a friend’s computer to search for some article about something. I don’t recall exactly so I’m making up the details; but he typed in a search for a an old political article that he had read. All of the search responses came up with things pertaining to the arts and travel. Things that his friend was interested in!

No doubt the AI (just like everything else on the net) stores your preferences and delivers similar things to your door. “Because you watched Star Trek here are similar movies...”

Since you seem to know what you are talking about
you know algorithms by definition are deterministic.
Every thing else is like a fight (or a model) once the first punch is thrown everything changes.

Of course it’s going to be. I cannot be avoided. The AI will have the biases of those who programmed it and NOBODY, except God, can be completely objective.

I was wondering about that. If AI scours up the entire internet you would think it would come up with a decent answer. However, I understand that what is really happening is that the questions we type in are not the questions that the AI answers. Instead, the code transforms questions into politically correct ones that the AI answers.

The other possibility is that the programmers are modifying the weights on data so that information that comes from .gov sites is weighted higher making EPA, DOE, and CDC lies percolate to the top.

The universal leftist bias in AI was obvious from the first time I tried out Chat-GPT. It was so blatant that it immediately made the notion of all-knowing AI laughable. It’s nothing more than the best propaganda and brain-washing machine ever invented. And it’s the ultimate example of garbage in - garbage out. If the AI network’s creators train it on nothing but leftist drivel, or it just innocently encounters it constantly because there’s so much leftist nonsense in every “mainstream” source, the result will be the same: Ridiculously slanted responses to almost any query.

This problem, plus the impossibility of ever trusting General AI with anything important (because no human will ever be able to know exactly how it arrived at its answers, nor be able to detect every way in which it might subtly alter the truth) are serious roadblocks to its adoption, beyond just being an interesting toy. When it works right, it can seem almost miraculous, but when it falters, which happens frequently at the moment, it may not always be apparent to the user that they are getting wrong or distorted responses.

First and foremost, there is no such thing as A.I.

It does not exist.

It may be masquerading as AI buttrue AI couldn’t be rigged

AI is much faster at sorting of selected, biased information than an free-thinking human could ever accomplish!

Zero in on the words 'selected and unbiased'.....

“AI”, artificial intelligence, if that’s supposed to be the artificial equivalent of human intelligence, I completely agree.

It’s simple, AI is programmed what to think just like a young school child is programmed what to think. Garbage in, garbage out. A left leaning kid from school, a left leaning AI system. No different. Whatever the left touches will be crapola.

What’s going on here is another effort by the left to make absolute lies the truth. They do it with fact checks, fake science and biased studies, now AI is added to their propaganda arsenal.
