It’s August 2017 and everyone is abuzz with news of the solar eclipse. Fast forward seven years and, once again, the moon’s path across the sun has everyone excited.

The Great American Eclipse is set for April 8. Almost all of the U.S. will get to experience the moon block out the sun but parts of 15 states - Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee – are along the path of totality, or the route of greatest darkness during the eclipse.

NASA says #12 welding hood

#12 is OK. Some find it too bright for comfort. #14 is hard to find (so I hear) in local welding supply shops. When I was a kid, the only acceptable easy to find alternative was exposed black & white negative film. I used that for the '63 eclipse. Try to find that now!

I’m near the Wisconsin border. Southern Illinois, around Carbondale is probably a 6-8 hour drive. Can’t afford to spend the night anywhere, so I’m good here.

I’m in the path of totality (yay!!) and am very excited!

I am too. It’s going to get crowded ‘round here. We’re getting 4 minutes, 10 seconds of total eclipse and I have my $2 glasses.

And I’ll wear anything I damn well want. I’m thinking of going formal.

LOL - the eclipse t-shirt my friend gave me is black with a little color on the front. No red or green, though. Oh, well…I’ll count on my friends to wear brighter colors.
