Ed Sheeran has sung in Punjabi for the first time during his concert in Mumbai, leaving fans thrilled and setting social media ablaze.
During the show on Saturday night, the English superstar invited the Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh to perform with him on stage.
Crowds went wild when the duo gave a rendition of Dosanjh's hit track Lover in Punjabi.
On Instagram, one fan said it was "the crossover we never knew we needed".
Another said: "I think I have seen history in the making," while a third said Sheeran's Punjabi was "perfect".
After wrapping the performance, both artists posted a clip from the performance from their Instagram handles.

Superstar. A certain musical has created one of the dumbest words in the English language.
That’s nice. Never heard of them and don’t care.
A little off point, but the funniest TV program I have ever seen was on BBC TV and was called Mumbai Calling.
It was a parody of a Brit transferred to Mumbai to fix a call center. It leveraged just about every Brit and Indian stereotype there is. Must have been deemed too offensive and was pulled after one year.
At least He’s a more gracious musician than 99% of his current brethren. Never heard a bad word out of his mouth about anything or anyone.
Punjabi Singh... ...Diljit
...not Indian
There is no such ethnicity or language called INDIAN or PAKISTANI
I’ve never heard and Ed Sheeran song but I have a few Diljit Dosanjh songs on my playlist. I have no idea what he is singing about. I just found a few of his songs enjoyable to listen to.
I met Ed Sheeran at Aspen Jazz Fest around 2011 when he was just starting out and had 15 minute conversation with him. Maybe about two years before he became really big. I even got an autograph from him on the page he appeared on in the festival magazine. Nice guy.

Probably a brilliant piece of marketing by Sheeran if his Punjabi is good...
He does strike me as a decent man. Anyone criticizing him is likely doing so out of stupid ignorance.
Ed Sheeran is one of the good guys (as far as celebrities goes).
There are videos on you tube where he makes cameo appearances on stage with amateur’s.
I like this one:

Agreed. Not a huge fan, but he has a few songs I like. Unlike a lot of today's, "musicians," he does seem to have some genuine talent.
His appearance in the movie, "Yesterday," playing himself, suggested to me he has a sense of humor and is capable of laughing at himself, and those are two things that say a lot about who a person is.
Sounds like a cool show. I wonder if the episodes are available anywhere.
Isn’t a superstar a nova?
He’s pretty big. Saw him on YouTube. Wembly stadium sold out. He’s the only one on stage.
from 50 years ago, the polite thing to do.

It is more than a decade and a half old, and already looks quite dated because it focuses on a technology company as its main storyline.
At least 13 years old. I saw it around 2008/09.
Thanks — looks pretty good. Has a bit of a The Office feel but of course working the India/Brit angle and seems pretty fearless about it.
