Without a doubt. You can't find a household in the USA without a roll of the stuff or papers mended with it.

If it wasn't for Scotch Tape, we wouldn't have "Smokey Cat Eye" look...(or so the Scotch Tape Hack-a-Day tips tell me since I don't use mascara myself being an old-fashioned guy)

I don’t have to read the article, just look at the packaging in your photo, it was originally invented to close rips in the Kilts.

Great stuff, all right. I used to hate it, though, when people would use it on light tables (anybody remember light tables?) instead of drafting tape, because you’d have to use a razor blade and some acetone to get the damned stuff off the glass, which of course the lazy swine who used it wouldn’t bother to do.

One of the greatest American inventions.

Equally impressive was Tartan Farms in Ocala, a longtime mainstay of Florida’s Thoroughbred Industry.

I used to sell chemical woodpulp cellulose to a company that made the intermediate for 3M. Scotch Brand “Invisible” tape is such a simple, every day product with a quite complex base.

Even the little plastic dispenser is clever. And the plaid them is great.

...pressure sensitive adhesive backing.

Now this is something I didn't know about masking tape. I wonder how the pressure sensitive aspect works?

Once I got a cut on my arm and there were no band-aids around. I used scotch tape to cover my wound and the bleeding stopped.

However it was not pleasant ripping the scotch tape off afterwards. It took a lot of arm hair away!

It was marketed as “Scotch” tape because the Scots were known to be a wee bit thrifty, and would prefer to mend something rather than throw it out and buy a replacement. In the U.K. it’s just called Sellotape, but originally made by a different company than 3M.
