I decided years ago that I wouldn’t use these services if I could at all avoid it. I only use ‘regular’ taxi companies, at least as long as they last...
Mother (and father) of the year.
I don’t understand the article - it says she had been out for an evening with her husband and was coming home - but where was the husband? Did he send her home alone?
Body of article contradicts the headline. Police indicate she was dropped off on a secondary street and made her way to the highway.
No clue about the Uber, but what in the world was she doing out after midnight just after her baby was born? Suggests to me that her night on the town included too many martinis.
So where was her husband? They went out together it says. So where was he when she was struck & killed?
Well, I don’t see where the article indicates just how long ago the baby was born. And I can see where she might need a night out, but why alone? Where was the husband she was apparently out with?
If she was out with her husband, why did she not go home with him instead of calling an uber?
You didnt read the story.
Oh I figure she was drunk off her ass which is why she called Uber and did not drive which was responsible. For what ever reason the Uber did not drop her off at home but on the side of the road leading to her death. Wanna bet she was puking all over the back of his car and that is why she was thrown out?
There is nobody less qualified to gather and convey information than a modern “journalist.” Why was she not with her husband? Why does family story conflict with police info? Where was she actually dropped off? All these seem like questions that went unasked. I bet the reporter did remember to ask her pronouns.
I see now that the baby was born 8 months ago.
Reread article. Baby born 8 months ago. So probably ok to be out, but still, the story is both tragic and mystifying.
Looked on the net for a cab nearest me. All foreign speaking. On map looked like was were out of a home or inside a jiffy lube type place. Called a relative.
I’m not sure it needs to be a ‘modern’ journalist, though it’s surely worse now. Most of us who have been involved in a story that made the news know that news reports almost always get things wrong.
I just wonder where the husband was.
There’s a lot more to this story. According to other sources, not only was the husband in the Uber, but so was another unnamed passenger. And all of them got out together. And they gave the driver a $3 tip, normal for the $15 ride. If all 3 got out together at 1 a.m., what happened to the husband and mystery passenger? What happened over the missing 3 hours?
Very weird.
I live in the DC suburbs; all the ‘regular’ cab drivers here who belong to traditional cab companies are immigrants. In my area, a lot of them are Ethiopian. They’re excellent drivers, polite, and speak understandable if not very good English.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case with many Uber, Lyft, drivers here.
