Unfortunately the police are trained to always go for the kill if they are going to shoot. This is one of those cases where they could have shot the kid in the leg and ended the confrontation with little danger to themselves.

“Just shoot them in the leg” is the most ill-informed argument that comes up when there is an officer involved shooting. The people making the argument should just state that they haven’t the slightest idea of what they’re talking about and be done with it.

“This is one of those cases where they could have shot the kid in the leg…”

Did you forget the sarcasm tag, or do all your life experiences come from watching TV?

What's so unfortunate about this? If someone is about to to kill a cop, kill them first.

Really? Why stop with shooting him in the leg? Couldn’t he have shot the weapon out of his hands? Maybe he could have shot the blade off the scythe! SMDH...

This guy’s partner failed. He is the one who should have taken the shot. The deputy was one step away from a possibly fatal blow, and had to twist around to take a shot while running!

Or they could have just shot him once and reassessed at that point if more were necessary.

No one, cops or civillians, are trained to shoot to wound. Because that implies you’re not in a deadly situation, and if you’re not, you can’t justify the use of deadly force (ie using your firearm). Now technically cops can shoot to wound, but they are also given greater lattitude in their official duties and have legal protections regular people don’t have.

So cops are supposed to be Annie Oakley?

You aim center-of-mass for a reason. When you're off by a couple of feet you might still hit something.
