When I was a kid, my father frequented a restaurant that served "turtle soup".

Are turtles the only reptiles that humans eat?

I ate sea turtle in Mazatlan, MX in 1977. It was damn good!

People also eat alligator, snake, and other reptiles.

I’ve had turtle before. Its flavor was too strong for my liking.

I have had snapping turtle, multiple times, and it tastes great.

Of course, everything probably tastes great, pan fried.

Turtle got revenge from his grave... err.. from within the stomachs of its eaters. (same thing though)

I’ve eaten soft shell turtle. Too greasy for my liking.

Turtles are not kosher or halal, so I guess these people weren’t Jews or Muslim.

A sufficiently large dose of vitamin C will counteract almost any poison; but medicine worldwide remains in the dark ages on that subject.

The sportsmans clubs around here used to all have turtle fries. Fried turtle, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and kneecaps.

Alligator is common today even in restaurants all the way up here. Turtle, snake, and iguana are still common enough by those with access to them. I know other types of lizards used to be a lot more common the further you go back.

I take a turtle once in a while. Ive had snake elsewhere but there really arent much in the way of edible size ones here and the few that exist are rare enough to just let them be. Lizard wise I guess Im just entirely out of luck, we dont have any.

South Louisiana in Larose in the 60s.

At JCs, Mr. JC put on the occasional Turtle Supper and Crab Boil. JCs was a local bar and occasional supper event in South Louisiana. It was all locals and very civilized though it looked like a run down bar, it was not. JCs was a local area where people just got together and had a beer or not and just talked. Our local priest Father Fauci also attended. Father Fauci’s money was no good at the bar. He could not buy a beer as his parishioners would buy it with instance.

I miss those days of innocence.

Definitely NOT!
Alligators are pretty good!
Rattlesnakes are OK, kind of rubbery.
There are even hunting seasons for turtles in some states.
Cobras, pythons, salt water alligators, ...
People basically eat lots of snakes and lizards, but just some people.
Anyway reptiles are mostly exceptional, specialty foods, I do not thing anybody eats them as a staple food.

Many times this starts with the phrase "hold my beer and watch this".

We also eat, alligators, crocodiles, snakes of various species, and lizards like iguanas. Protein is protein. I like sea turtles no need to eat them they live for over 100 years and hurt no one. Snapping turtles are d1cks they make great turtle soup. Commanders Palace in the Big Easy has the best version of it anywhere at any price.
