I’m not talking about homeschooling and I didn’t home school. I’m talking about paying attention to what your kid is learning (or not learning) and doing something about it yourself.
PS- I do support homeschooling and I expect the best students going forward will come out of the homeschooling ranks.

My parents paid attention. My brothers and I were mostly publicly educated, but when the need arose, we had private education, as well.

No, because mr. mm and I knew of a situation where it was a single parent (mom) who had a kid heading for JD. the child was so bad the public school kicked them out.
She used an online curriculum and her child did fantastic with it, got his self-esteem up, and went onto to community college and straightened his life out.
Its harder that way, but it is doable.
And considering the quality of public education these days, almost any parent can do a far better job than the public school system by virtue of the simple fact that they can give the kids one on one attention.
Parents helping kids with homework is essentially homeschooling their kids.

You have to watch somebody balancing their checkbook before you can tell they can’t do math.
OTOH, they’ll tell you they can’t do English every time they open their mouth.
