Possible Flood Waters in California - Be Prepared- "Go Bag" and contents

metmom :""Warning to Freepers in flood prone areas of Kalifornia to make preparations in the event of such a scenario.
Get your important papers and items together, pack a bag, prep several days of food
- all in a ‘grab and go’ level of preparation.
Review potential escape routes to high ground and make preliminary plans on where to stay.
If with friends/family, make sure you call them and touch base so they aren’t taken by surprise when you show up at the door.
Hopefully, the spring will be relatively tame and the snow melt not triggering massive floods.
But you can never count on it."

Be aware - Nobody like surprises !
If you are in a flood prone area which subject to occasional or seasonal flooding, be prudent and aware of weather conditions

You should probably have a "Go Bag" for each one of your family members - including the family pets (including food and water bowls).
You should have water for each member
Food and snacks for each member
At least one change of clothes, including socks and underwear
Have a paper hard map for egress routes, preferably avoiding any possible compromised routes over water ways and bridges.
A compass is always handy to have available
Anticipate any roadway problems, which includes prior examples of traffic jams, a limited number of refueling stations and service areas (bathroom stops).
Have a charged cellphone and re-charging cord adapter suitable for vehicles
Cash and/or credit cards - but remember that if power is not available or cut,.."cash is king" even during an outage
If staying with friends, call ahead to make sure that you are welcome, and that there is availability;
and let those friends know of your intended route.

Don't forget to seasonally adjust your go bag contents
Especially clothing since the requirements from winter will vary in spring vs. summer wear.
And continue to rotate food, snacks and water during each season.

Anticipate traffic congestion as many others may think like you have, to vacate the area.
Always try to have enough fuel for travel; try to keep fuel at half tank full, since you don't know conditions ahead.

And the most important of all...Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Here's a 30 second PSA on YouTube (pretty catchy tune and lyrics). Click the pic.

Not saying don’t have a go bag, but “bugging out” makes you a homeless refugee and should only be a last restort - not the entire SHTF plan, like some.

Good advice; I carry a BOB in the Jeep’s cargo bay — have since 9/11 — but I’m staying here with the Condo Defense Militia, and protecting our neighborhood condos and people.

It’s a shame CA doesn’t have dams to control flooding and reservoirs to retain the extra fresh water for periods of drought... oh, wait, they’ve been tearing down dams and refusing to build more reservoirs, my bad.

Definitely need to count on NOT having internet access.

If you do, that’s great, but best to not depend on that alone.

One of the most important things to take is your last year’s tax returns. You’ll need it if you want to apply for FEMA disaster benefits.

half tank full

Half a tank is an empty tank in an emergency.

The best defense is a good offence. Get out of California all together and it would cure a lot of worries all at one time. lol

We are planning to stay put in a SHTF. But if something else happens like a fire, flood or tornado you may need to evacuate or even just be elsewhere for a while.
