It seems either getting 22% of daily calories from protein or less, or getting low leucine protein foods (veggie based) instead of animal based protein foods, mitigates the immune system issues that cause atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Interesting, but I have lost all faith in the US medical community to tell me the truth. Part of woke ideology is anti-meat and this “study” seems to be support that, as if the grant money is motivation to conclude what those paying for it want it to conclude.
I don’t trust big medicine anymore. This well could be true, but I am not going to assume it is true due to the complete corruption of the US medical sector. So this information is usless to me and won’t affect my eating whatsoever.
This is what happens when you completely lose the public trust. You become worse than useless.

It’s petty, it’s absolutely “grammar nazi”, and it’s positively OCD, but when the writer, the editors, and the publisher ALL miss the appalling error of: “overtime” vs “over time” I cannot express my disgust with the level of incompetence and borderline ignorance shown by those who are supposed to be informing us.

"consuming over 22% of dietary calories from protein can lead to increased activation of immune cells that play a role in atherosclerotic plaque formation. Furthermore, the scientists showed that one amino acid—leucine—seems to have a disproportionate role in driving the pathological pathways linked to atherosclerosis, or stiff, hardened arteries. Perhaps there is a supplement that one could take that would change the action of leucine that would block the formation of atherosclerosis.

Totally bogus study! Absolute garbage! It is shocking and depressing to see such stupidity pretending to be science published.

Or...maybe they shouldn’t use genetically modified mice for studies on humans, or feed humans protein drinks loaded with sugar to examine how protein acts.

At times I find it challenging to consume the RDA of protein for my weight and age on a regular basis (~1 gram/pound for a seasoned citizen). The RDA makes no mention of protein as a percentage of total calories.

I disagree with his assertion that it was cr-p protein sources. The actual protein was good, as milk and whey protein are fine, but the crud that was added to that protein, a lot of sugars and oil, were not healthy.
I agree the study did not follow people through, but if we waited until humans kept this up for 30 years, we’d know nothing now. Mouse life is much shorter and acts as a proxy.
Is it a complete enough comparison? No, but it insinuates a few things, and those could be followed up on.
It is an interesting concern and would not be terrible to experiment on oneself, with the new implied guidance it suggests. You could have a 75% protein diet, if 22% was from animal sources, and seemingly be okay.
