There appears to be a significant link between the coffee intake of people with intestinal cancer and mortality, as well as the likelihood of the disease returning after remission. A team in which researchers participated have reached this conclusion.
Previous research showed that coffee consumption reduced the risk of intestinal cancer. This new study investigated whether coffee also impacts the disease's progression. The researchers compared coffee intake to the return of the disease after remission and the mortality among patients.
A total of 1,719 patients were questioned about their lifestyle, including the question of how much coffee they drank. The results show that patients who drink more than four cups a day have a 37% lower chance of relapse than those who drink less than two cups a day. Moreover, the mortality rate was lowest among those who consumed between three and five cups a day.
Some 12,000 people are diagnosed with intestinal cancer in the Netherlands each year, making it one of the most prevalent forms of cancer both in the Netherlands and abroad. Although life expectancy after a diagnosis is increasing, the cancer relapses in 20% to 30% of this group, prompting extensive studies into the connection with nutrition and other lifestyle factors.

4cups?!
Or you’ll croak from a cardiovascular event before the cancer can kill ya...
Doesn’t that make your coffee greasy?
Had to give up cigarettes now a nephrologist tells me to limit coffee intake. So I guess it’s not all that good for the kidneys.
—> Drinking decaffeinated coffee reminds me of
Kissing my sister!
Yup, it vastly improves my disposition by 100% every morning... :)
—> I drink in the 3 to 5 group, pots per day.
I need a cup before bed, to give me the strength to sleep through the night.
“Doesn’t that make your coffee greasy?”
Nope. Quick dunk.
Years ago, I was drinking coffee with milk and sugar, but nowadays, I definitely drink it black. The girly stuff covers up the subtle flavors in the coffee. There are so many different kinds, why muck up the flavors with milk and sugar?
I call decaffeinated coffee “decrap.”
However, it is only brewed coffee, not instant, nor is it only caffine.
There have been mass population very long term studies tracking large numbers of people over time, and animal studies where control groups of mice were given hot water, brewed coffee, and instant coffee.
Only the brewed coffee produced the anti-cancer results, as I recall.
This study reinforces the previous studies.
Doing my part to stay healthy even as I read today’s news....
I will pass this on to my niece - her husband had two feet of his intestines removed just before Christmas due to colon cancer.
“So I guess it’s not all that good for the kidneys.” Hmmm....
“A new study finds that people who metabolize caffeine slowly are three times more likely to develop kidney dysfunction.
Other research has suggested that coffee promotes health, including kidney health.
The slow metabolism, says the new study, is the result of a gene variant present in half the population at large. They propose that this may account for the conflicting conclusions of previous studies.”
Coffe.... is there anything it can’t do? Having my morning joe right now.
Back in the late 90s I was diagnosed with PSVT, Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia... My heart would go about 170 beats per minute for about 5 or 10 minutes without any reason or exertion on my part... Damn scarry stuff... The heart specialist told me to quit smoking and quit drinking coffee... I quit coffee and it went away. Mind you... I was drinking several cups a day.
A few years later I started drinking coffee again, but I only have a couple of cups per day now. My suggestion... Avoid the high caffeine varieties. Caffeine is great in low doses, high dose variety’s can be harmful. Forget about switching to decaf... It’s like drinking muddy water and has about the same benefit.
So, we’re going to go through the old eggs are good for you, eggs are bad for, eggs are good again conflict again. Then there’s the vax is good for you, vax will kill you but get 6 boosters.
I’m in the 4+ category.
And...to show how woke I am...it’s 4+ bLACK coffees.
I know putting lots of stuff in your coffee is considered a feminine kind of thing, especially considering how complicated some of the women ordering at Starbucks makes their orders (backing up the line behind them).
However, many women do take their coffee black. Not only does it speed up the ones behind them getting their (hopefully) black coffees, but black coffee is actually a very healthy drink, it just needs to be black and not marred with totally unnecessary sugar and dairy products.
I used to be one of those who thought putting cream and sugar in your coffee made it taste better but once you acquire the taste for black coffee - and it does take a little time for some - you will soon not want your coffee any other way.
Although, I do make an exception when the dessert menu comes around after dinner at a restaurant. Because I try to avoid sweets of all kinds, I do usually order an Irish coffee, which is black coffee with a little whiskey in it.
Great for her, but donating the machine gives new meaning to “sloppy seconds”.
(ducking and running)
Same. In my 20’s, used that stuff but drank the super-cheap coffee too.
