In some British commonwealth countries, “yacht” means sailboat and “launch” means powerboat. It’s a matter of differing linguistic habits. The old British West Indies have a mix of the language habits.

I had a friend in college whose family did a lot of sailing. I referred to their 32-foot sailboat a "yacht" one day and he corrected me. He said the difference between a yacht and a boat is that a yacht has a dishwasher.
I think he lives on his own yacht these days.
