HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Saturday, Feb. 20.

It is rumored here that Gen. SHERMAN has had a fight with Gen. POLK near Brandon, whipped him; and taken 12,000 prisoners.

Official information from Gen. DODGE was received at Gen. LOGAN's Headquarters to-day that the rebels, supposed to be RODDY's command, attempted to cross the Tennessee River at three different ferries, but were driven back by Gen. DODGE's troops. Our loss was very slight.

Three new Anti-Slavery Papers in Tennessee--Important Order of Adjutant-Gen. Thomas--Cumberland Gap out off from Knoxville--Railroad Communication Between Knoxville and Chattanooga--Affairs at Chattanooga--Accident to an Ohio Regiment--Emancipation Meeting at Memphis--Citizens Hunting and Shooting Guerrillas--Gen. Grant at the Theatre, &c., &c.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1864.

This city is one of the most progressive -- thanks to its new class of citizens -- of the nation. And its progressiveness is not wholly confined to its limits. Its contagious influences are being felt all over the State. For instance, in a week or more, three new daily papers will be established in this State, to be respectively located at Nashville, Murfreesboro and Chattanooga. Regarding the former, I may say that the first printing-press and type ever bought for the sole purpose of printing Anti-Slavery sentiments in Tennessee, arrived in this city yesterday, and in all probability the first number of the new paper in this city will make its appearance on Thursday or Friday morning next. It will be called the Nashville Daily Times, and will be edited and owned by Mr. S.C. MERCER, late editor of the Union, of this city. The size and appearance of the paper will be more Northern than newspapers are generally in this section, and great pains will be taken to make it the
